I've noticed that the annoying ads on the "you've updated Noscript" page can't be blocked normally using Adblock Plus. I've even tried digging through the page source, but the ad images seem to be encoded directly in the CSS.

Some of us don't want to look at these ads (which, by the way, resemble scam banners I've seen here and there). Why do you deliberately use techniques like these to make them hard to avoid? It's very annoying.

Are you aware of the extended discussion on the web recently about advertising on the NS site?
Are you simply complaining or asking for a change to the author's website?
If the former, there is a general forum for this kind of "discussion" http://forums.informaction.com/viewforum.php?f=8
If the latter, then when I have issues with a website, I generally find that a polite introductory private email to the site owner is a better way to begin a productive dialog than an apparently trolling (not saying at all that your intent is to troll, but it does appear a little bald-faced) post in a product support forum. :-)

I am aware of the controversy surrounding Noscript's virus-like behavior with respect to Adblock Plus.

I'm both complaining and asking for a change. I don't care about "having a productive dialog", I just want to be able to block offensive ads using the common tools for the task. Normally, I wouldn't bother, but in my estimation, Mr. Maone isn't your typical sleazy advertiser.

...then again, he is using sleazier techniques to prevent ad-blocking than any other site I'm aware of. That's definitely a strike against him.

I'm not trolling, I just want noscript.net to quit doing evil things.

As for where my original post belongs, oops, I guess 'general discussion' does fit a bit better. Your use of scare quotes around the word "discussion" don't do you any credit, though.

So, if you've read up on the topic then you would also be aware that Giorgio funds his work through advertising, as do many other websites, and he asserts his rights over his published content. His position on advertising and yours (and that of AdBlockPlus and some of its list maintainers) are irreconcilable at the moment.

I've asked the mods to move this thread to the General forum.

Perhaps your Adblock filters & or NoScript settings too.

Relatively clean.

I use some ancient filter set, nothing special.
NoScript settings look to be fairly defaulted, not overly restrictive in the Plugins section.
(IOW, FRAMES are not blocked, nor do I have Apply to trusted sites too, enabled.)

I bet you can get rid of the remaining ads if you want to bad enough. Have you tried using something like Stylish? Since I don't even notice them anymore, I haven't bothered trying. But if it bothered me as much as it does Guest, then I'd fix it myself. It's your browser; go for it! Good luck.

I agree with G.O.L. that this is nothing more than a troll trying to incite an argument. I vote we just ignore the ignorant because there is nothing evil or offensive about the ads that are on NoScript.net page.
