Automatic updates

I am using Firefox 3.5.1 on Mac OS 10.5.7. It is set up to notify me when updates to add-ons are available for installation. On July 22, 2009, the auto-update told me that an update to NoScript was available, which I permitted to be installed. After installation, I opened a Firefox tab that was a NoScript page that was supposed to provide a description of what is new on the update. Instead it told me that I was using version 1.9.6.8 of NoScript, and that a newer version (1.9.6.9) was available. Shouldn't that version have been provided by the Firefox updater rather me having to manually install it right after having made an update to NoScript?? Is there a reason that I should ever hesitate to install a new update?
