[Unrelated] "temporarily allow" selections in strange font

Ever since a recent update, my NS selections for "Temporarily allow" and "Temporarily allow all this page" are displayed in a strange font. Maybe Arabic. The other selections are all in the expected font. I have no idea where to begin.
Thanks,
John

I have a screenshot saved as a .bmp, but I can't figure out how to attach or paste it.
No doubt I have to face the east, and enter my dog's maiden name, or somesuch.

Upload it to a site like Google Drive or postimage.org, and post a link to it here

The "strange font" is just the text not fully rendering... I see also some black bars after "About NoScript" and "Options" menu items text...
It's also happening to your tab titles...

Not a NoScript issue, but I'll try to help anyway.

Try start the browser in Safe Mode?

EDIT scratch that, the black bars are special characters unavailable in that font, not part of this issue.
Try a clean profile with only NoScript latest development build installed, if that works go back to your main profile and try Standard Diagnostic (leaving NoScript enabled) to isolate and correct the cause. Please let us know the results thanks

A clean profile with only the latest NS build yields the same strange font.

OK so if you install an older NoScript do you still have this problem?
*or*
https://noscript.net/feed?t=a)

If you uninstall your current Firefox (opt to keep your data!) and install Firefox ESR (if you can), do you have the same issue?

I went back to version (2.4.8rc1) and it's still there (the strange font), so it looks like it's not a noscript problem, as you said.
I will try installing Firefox Extended Support Release, and let you know how that works out.
Thanks,
jm

barbaz, uninstalling Firefox may be a bit drastic for troubleshooting. At least this early on.

jm, judging from the screenshot, it appears that your system is not displaying Unicode and italic characters properly. Can you read the following line?

This line is written in italic with Unicode ellipsis at its end…

Question 1: Can you see the above text properly with NoScript enabled?
Question 2: If not, can you see it after NoScript is disabled?

If you don't want to uninstall your current Firefox to try Firefox ESR version, you can also try the portable version.

Question 3: After installing NoScript in the ESR version of Firefox, is the issue still there?
Question 4: Does the issue exist in ESR when NoScript is disabled?

Thunderscript, I installed the Firefox ESR v31.4.0 before I saw your post.
Everything is now back to normal, with noscript 2.6.9.14rc1. No more strange font.
One of the Firefox updates must have corrupted something.
I may have flushed my toilet during the update, causing the corruption. I noticed my refrigerator wouldn't update after that.
<sigh>
Software is a black art.
Thanks to barbaz & thunderscript for your help.

Nope, I get weird rendering issues in Gecko 35 that are just not there in Gecko 31 (or Gecko < 34 for that matter) - e.g. text pixellates on scrolling, and when opening the mozillaZine forum smilies popup I get weird squares briefly appearing in the main window.
It's already worth checking if the OP is experiencing likewise but it's instead manifesting like you see in the screenshot of the italics in the NS menu.

The italic characters issue is very likely separate from the Unicode character issue.
Regarding the Unicode character issue, I saw similar while using Firefox + Windows XP (except it was boxes and sideways T's, not black bars), that is probably just an issue with the font used by Windows XP to display window titles. Never seen anything like it on OS X or Linux as far as I remember.

I'm a bit surprised, bad font rendering caused by Firefox itself is not something I hear often. Will keep an eye out for it.

I'm glad this is fixed for you, jm. :)
