Unable to detect FlashGet

Since a month now, FlashGot (1.1.9.8) has suddenly stopped detecting my download manager (FlashGet 1.9.0.1012). When I start Firefox (3.5.1) I get a error message as

Cant Open file C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\FlashGot.exe.test

This is the same message that I got when I tried to detect the Download manager.

FlashGet has been installed on my computer for a couple of years now. Same for Flashgot (but it keeps updating). I have tried to reinstall flashgot but the same error.

Please help

Does the file C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\FlashGot.exe.test exists when it happens (i.e. while Firefox is running)?
Have you got permissions to write in that directory?

The directory does exist, but there is no file in it. And yes, I do have permissions to write in this directory.

Could you please post your FlashGot Options|Advanced|Show Log output?
Also, do "Download with FlashGet" menu items work in IE?

This part of the log means that "FlashGot.exe" could not be found, which in turn means that it could not be previously created.
This can be due to wrong permissions on your profile directory, or an anti-virus / personal firewall interfering with Firefox.
Could you
  1. Check if FlashGot.exe is present in your profile, and if it is, whether you can run it or not.
  2. If it's not there, check if you can write files on your Firefox profile
  3. Anyway, try to run Firefox once after temporarily disabling your security softwares. Maybe one of them is tagging "FlashGot.exe" as a malware (like it happened with avast! a couple of weeks ago) and is preventing it from being accessed.

I meant FlashGet. However, it's a moot point after your logs.

I could not find flashgot.exe anywhere on the C drive. Maybe that is the problem. How can I get this file.
Yes, I can write files onto my Firefox profile
I disabled my ANti virus (Kaspersky) but still the problem remains.

Thanks for your help. Hoping for an early resolution.

FlashGot automatically creates FlashGot.exe in your profile directory C:\Documents and Settings\paresh.PROLOGICFIRST\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bcxdhhn5.default\ if it can't find it on Firefox startup.
Please clear your log and restart the browser once, to see if a more informative message about failing FlashGot.exe creation is given.
At any rate, you may try to download FlashGot.exe inside your profile directory manually, but that would definitely amount to a cheap work-around for a weird issue.

Did you try to download FlashGot.exe and put it manually in your profile as suggested in my previous post?

Also, does the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\ path exist and can you write inside it?

The C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\ directory exists and I am able to write in this directory.
I copied the flashgot.exe in the profile, but still the problem remains the same.

Thanks for your Help

Please open a command prompt and run this command manually:

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\paresh.PROLOGICFIRST\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bcxdhhn5.default\FlashGot.exe -o C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\FlashGot.exe.test
Do you get any error message?
Does the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\FlashGot.exe.test get created?

I get the following message

Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\flashgot.bcxdhhn5.default\FlashGot.exe.test

The file does not get created. However I do have the rights to write in this directory.

Thanks
