[Unrelated] Multiple sites not loading since last update

Post by Teq »

Hi,
Since the new year, I've been having problems with multiple sites simply hanging and having to reload the page multiple times. I've tried clearing cookies, history, resetting NoScript. Checked to make sure not got the drive-by ib.adnxs.com virus (running Kaspersky anyway).

I'm on the latest version of Firefox 34.0.5 x86 en-GB - last updated 10/12/14. Not sure if this is a Noscript issue, but this is the only thing I recall changing recently (last install was update to Adobe Reader on New Year's eve - I'm getting the same problem on my main computer and that doesn't have Adobe Reader installed).

Examples of hanging sites include: wowhead.com; guardian.co.uk, wow.gamepedia.com and this forum

Console error suggests:

Code: Select all

uncaught exception: NoScript aborted redirection to http://ib.adnxs.com/ttj?id=3419032&size=728x90&tmhf=11&pt1=2617114257720142&pt2=37717&pt3=0&rev=0&position=above&prm=0&nwk=1&efo=0&dir=0&rem=1&pas=0&ad_size=728x90&referrer=http%3A//www.wowhead.com/guide%3D2507/warlords-of-draenor-engineering-overview%23ranged-weapons&nsafe=general&reftype=none&disp=none&tmiv=1&tcb=0.7941914423402988&abv=ATF&cb=5829430335
Permission denied to access property 'nodeType''
I have to reload a page multiple times to get it to (eventually) display. I've tried enabling stuff I would rather not (such as googletag) but avoiding the really sh**e sites like doubleclick.net.

Not sure what to try next or if this is a nocscript problem?

This is a great add-on to Firefox, and my thanks.

To double check that it's caused by a NoScript update (as opposed to a change on the websites' end), does downgrading NoScript get it back working again?
I'd suggest you try download v 2.6.9.6 from https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/noscript/versions or http://noscript.net/feed?t=a, then disable automatic updates (Tools > Add-ons Manager > Extensions > NoScript > More > Automatic Updates: Off), then see if the problem happens

(I also noticed I had Skype extension installed so, I disabled that too). I'm re-running Kaspersky scan as now also getting

Code: Select all

"Warning: attempting to write 9207 bytes to preference sites. This is bad for general performance and memory usage. Such an amount of data should rather be written to an external file."
... that's another symptom of ib.adnxs.com drive-by which is rather worrying. I've also reported it to wowhead - one of the key sites for the world of warcraft gaming community as it appears their site is infected (or at least showing adverts that have it).

Do you have a tab open either with the URL

Code: Select all

http://www.wowhead.com/guide=2507/warlords-of-draenor-engineering-overview#ranged-weapons
or that would legitimately load that URL? Looks from your console messages like that's the URL of the site that is responsible for these hangs (or its interaction with NoScript is the culprit)

Not necessarily bad, if you just have an unusually large NoScript whitelist you might see something like that...

The reset cleared down my whitelist. I've changed noscript settings so it doesn't auto-reload all tabs and that seems to have solved the issue on tabs other than wowhead (and this forum).

All of the obviously NoScript related console messages you posted in this entire thread seemed all related to the one wowhead URL I extracted from referrer parameter in the URL...

This sounds very likely to be an issue with either wowhead or the adnxs site they load content from. Please let us know what is their response to your issue report.

It's not just the wowhead website. For example on thegaurdian.co.uk getting a console error of

(This may be a separate issue, but I'm also having problems posting to your website. Here I'm getting a web error page:

Code: Select all

The connection was interrupted

The connection to forums.informaction.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Most of the message you pasted are unrelated to NoScript.
Does the problem persist if you disable all your add-ons except NoScript?
