NoScript blocking in spite of whitelist entry

Hi guys,

I went to Twitter's website and noticed that NoScript was blocking all scripts on that site. I was kind of surprised because I visit that site regularly and I knew I had whitelisted it. So I pulled up the NoScript whitelist and sure enough, twitter.com is whitelisted. Any ideas as to why NoScript would be blocking the site in spite of whitelist entry?

I've included some screenshots as well.

I'm using NoScript 1.9.5.

Hm, according to the NoScript icon the site is not whitelisted. This may be due to some internal glitch, e.g.twitter.com being whitelisted but http://twitter.com not inheriting its permissions.
Could you try to forbid and reallow twitter.com from the NoScript menu?

googleapis.com is constantly trying to run at that site. Perhaps that needs to be allowed also? I don't use Twitter, but it's worth a try.

Hi Giorgio. I did that and it's allowing scripts to run now on Twitter.com. As you mentioned, it's probably some glitch.

Thanks for the reply, Tom. NoScript was actually listing Twitter.com as forbidden and not the google apis domain.

just had same/similar problem on lulu.com
after a series of trusted/untrusted and whitelist page/whitelist site, plus a couple plugin disable/enable, the options menu merely blinks and will not stay rendered.

also, NS doesn't even show up as installed (in tools->addons) even tho there have been no FF restarts.
using 1.9.5 with ff 3.0.11on mac osx 10.4

ps conf code is REALLY hard to read sometimes

forgot to mention: only one other addon installed, adblock, but it is disabled (from its own menu, not from addon dialog)

Try these steps until NoScript is working right again. Since NS doesn't even show up as installed, do step 2 first, then update to NoScript 1.9.6 and proceed with step 1 if necessary.

1) The NoScript settings became messed up somehow. Reset the NoScript Options by pressing Reset at the bottom of the Options dialog. Export your whitelist before doing that if you've added any trusted or untrusted sites you'd like to restore after NoScript is working again.

2) The extensions database is corrupted. Exit Firefox, delete the files mentioned here in this linked article, restart Firefox. Uncorrupted versions of the files will be automatically regenerated. Corrupt_extension_files

3) There might be an extension conflict. Use the Add-ons manager to temporarily disable any other Firefox extensions you have installed, except for NoScript.

4) Perform a Standard Diagnostic. If NoScript isn't working by the time you get to the "Create a new profile" step, a new profile with no other extensions besides NoScript should work right.

Hope this helps. Please let us know whether it does.

did a uninstall/install of NS, all ok. did not do the deletes in profile.
click'd 'find updates' in addon dialog, sez there is no update to 1.9.5 - is it just not posted at mozilla? (that is where it updates from, no?)

lulu.com seems to be ok now. maybe an inheritance thing, maybe some other craziness. doesn't bother me that much, but it drives you-know-who (SWMBO) whacko. THAT'S the part that's a problem. :-)

thanks for the quick reply/help.

i can try to re-create this maybe next time i see the problem - the root problem we were trying to solve was that certain sites (lulu.com this time) display the 'you need the flash plugin' text. i think the symptoms are something like this: load the page, don't execute something that tells the site you have JS and/or flash, it displays the msg. the <noscript> html perhaps.

again, thanks

You're welcome. AMO hasn't released the update yet. You can get NS 1.9.6 from direct download link for NoScript 1.9.6 here http://noscript.net/getit
