Issues with a site.. cause?

About a month or so ago the arrows to go through images stopped appearing on the MSN Wonderwall site. I have been unable to figure out what the cause might be. Would anyone mind seeing if they might be able to figure it out?

http://wonderwall.msn.com/music/selena- ... 04.gallery

Arrows should appear to go through the image gallery but none do on my end. I am guessing the following are possible causes.

ABP.. but I asked them and they said it was working fine on their end with the filters I had in place.

NoScript.. but I have allowed MSN, Wonderwall and Yahooapis and experimented allowing others on that site and it still didn't work. Removed all sites marked untrusted to test also.

The only other thing I can think of that occured around that time was that I made some cookie block exceptions. Would blocking a cookie like MSN, Bing or Yahoo cause this issue?

Here is what the browser console and web console say (I don't understand these things so I am not sure if this is useful).

Use of getUserData() or setUserData() is deprecated. Use WeakMap or element.dataset instead. requestNotifier.js:63
"brickLayout:16" combo:11
"fbinit, try again #wall.partial" combo:11
"initErrorCatch:FB.XFBML is undefined" combo:11
"init strip"

ReferenceError: msn_enusslimheader is not defined

"ads called before init, try again: 100. Reason: dapMgr"
"resizeLayout" combo:11
"brickLayout:62" combo:11
"init strip"

This appears to be the part of the site that doesn't work for me. There is no next arrow.

Thanks for any help. Short of disabling NoScript and/or ABP entirely to troubleshoot, I am not sure what else to try and the cause might be. I don't want to disabled either of those because even if the site ended up working with either disabled it wouldn't help as I wouldn't leave them disabled in order to use the site. I would just stop visiting the site entirely if I can't get it to work properly with both enabled.

Looks like it needs facebook.net (or scripts blocked entirely).

Code: Select all

+yahooapis.com
+wonderwall.com
+facebook.net
+msn.com
(She's a tiny little thing isn't she.)

Erm, there's supposed to be a surrogate script for facebook.net so you never need to allow it...

What if you enable the fake script load events for that site? (about:config -> temporarily set noscript.fakeScriptLoadEvents.onlyRequireJS to false, then retry)

Thank you. i couldn't figure out what the cause was so it is nice to know at least.

By blocking scripts entirely, does that mean all scripts, all on that page or facebook.net entirely? I tried marking facebook.net as untrusted but that doesn't seem to make the site work. I do not want the facebook.net script to run so I would prefer not visiting the site rather than allowing that.

Is that something someone with a greater comfort and knowledge level can try for me or should I experiment with it? If the later, do I try then to see if it works and then reset it somehow or leave it permanently?

Thank you everyone for the help.

All on that page, IOW with nothing Allowed, or with just msn.com blocked (which then blocks everything else).
With nothing Allowed, the arrows appear.

Go ahead and try it to see if it works.
(you type/paste about:config in the URL bar as if you're typing a web site you want to go to, then you filter for that pref.
You won't void your warranty doing this :P
Just don't touch anything else in about:config and you should be fine.)
ETA Make sure you reload the web site after changing the pref.
To reset (advised when you're done testing), right-click that entry and select "Reset".

This is to check whether Giorgio needs to update the surrogate or if this site is just using some type of strict script inclusion enforcing different from require.js.

Still requires facebook.net.

Maybe this (same Error in a couple places):

Code: Select all

Error: TypeError: FB.XFBML is undefined

Thank you both for the help.

Since it doesn't work doing that about:config thing, the only options are then to either allow the facebook script to run or don't use the site/use with broken functionality then correct? Personally, I'll choose not to use the site but I didn't know if it meant something might eventually change in the surrogate script to allow it to work.

Thanks again for figuring out the cause for me.
