What does it mean when the Noscript icon has a red exclamation point in it? I'm using firefox on a mac. Thanks for your time.

it means you've got scripts globally allowed
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

Clicking on 'Forbid Scripts Globally' will restore it to the default mode, denying all scripts that aren't on your whitelist.
