I am having an unusual problem and looking for help.

I dont know what is happening here.
Locking no script down as tight as possible and still the extar winow to 69a opens.

Any insights please

Anything look weird in about:support or about:plugins?
What if you try a "not major" Gecko-based browser such as SeaMonkey or PaleMoon instead of Firefox?

Not sure how much help we can give since this isn't a NoScript issue - other than to recommend that you keep NoScript installed and be VERY careful what scripts you allow (in case there's more to your issue than what you're seeing atm).

I'm not sure it's NoScript either, but usually, in my experience NOScript can stops any such misbehavior

Problem with FF and MS Office ?? malware related

@Longboard: Can you test this theory by going to about:config and changing the prefs and to any custom value you want (that you will recognize if you see it), then retrying the steps in MS Office that reproduce the problem?

It would be just a temporary change to verify that poster is correct (i.e. that indeed Firefox is tacking the specified prefix and the specified suffix onto what it thinks is the requested domain name). So you could use say "FOO" for one and "BAR" for another, doesn't really matter what you use in this case.

Launched the Office button: two tabs popup: the correct Office sign in page and another tab that goes nowhere.
IE: the tab just shows "connecting" and never resolves.

So not sure what that means.

Look at the URL of the "dead" tab (switch to it then read what's in the address bar). Does its domain contain the "fake" prefix & suffix you entered in the about:config prefs? If so, now you know that poster is correct and this whole thing is just stupidly bad programming on MS' part .
