Why Am I Seeing pyLoad

Forgot to ask, but, Why Am I Seeing pyLoad?

Will setting flashgot.dmsopts.pyLoad.autostart to 'false' cause it to not show up as a download manager (assuming you're not using it)?

Because it can be used remotely (i.e. to execute a download on a different machine), and therefore there's no practical and efficient way to autodetect it on startup.

That is of absolutely no relevance to me whatsoever.

On seeing pyload being offered in Flashgot's context menu I went looking for it.
Couldn't find it, so googled for "Uninstall pyload windows" - got a long list of some very suspicious looking sites.

So to rephrase the OPs question - how can I get rid of this 'pyLoad' 'thing'

I suggest that if you can't autodetect its presence then you should make it an opt-in option

You don't have any "pyLoad thing" installed.
You just have a menu item to use pyLoad if it was available, either locally or over the network (which FlashGot can't tell at runtime), which is preciesly the "opt-in option" you're talking about.
As for the "suspicious looking sites", just google for "uninstall *anything windows" and you'll likely end with the same list.

Surely Flashgot can detect whether or not there is a potential network host from which it could use pyload, and not show the option if there isn't.

The likes of you or I can readily spot malware infested "Uninstall whatever you typed" sites. But not the people who call my local community centre to ask if someone can fix their computer which is taking 10 minutes to boot, 20 to shutdown, with popups and flyouts all over there desktops. No matter how much you tell them to be careful, they can help clicking where they shouldn't.

Its your software so you do what you think is right, but I think you're unwittingly helping the bad guys.
