Probably dumb question
Hi there,
I've been trying to recover my no script icon. I did check the FAQ in regards to going to customize menu and finding the icon in the toolbar setting. It's not there. I can tell that it is working in the background, but I can't for the life of me find an icon or keyboard command to get the toolbar to come up. I removed and downloaded the extension again, as well as closing and restarting Firefox to begin with. I'm using Firefox 26.0 if that helps any. Should I delete Firefox and start anew? I am at a loss since the pages I've been looking at all seem to say the same thing. I'm rather frustrated.

Re: Probably dumb question
Where are you looking for the icon? Addon bar? Status bar? Context menu?

I've tried the add on bar and the status bar. I am not sure what the context menu is, so I am going to guess that is a no. (yes, I am user stupid, but I do try) I saw another post about removing files, but I am rather afraid to do that as I am afraid of making the problem worse.

The context menu is what you get by right-clicking on the page.
By the way, you can launch the NoScript menu with Ctrl+Shift+S.

Barbaz thanks for the link. I will read it in a few minutes.
Thrawn I did the shift control S and got a window that appears to be a debugger box? It's not what I generally see with No Script. I typically see the little sub menu that has the temporarily allow <url here>. Is that a window I should be seeing? It's been years since I have turned my hand to playing with HTML scripting (assuming that is what it is) It's not something I've seen in the Faq's I've Googled up. Should I be looking that up somewhere? I do appreciate you taking your time with me on this.

Hecuba,
I went through that and what I did was remove all extension except noscript. It still didn't work. I had deleted the add on and reinstalled it back when I first started having problems with it. For the record, the add ons I use are: Adblock plus, AVG do not track, Microsoft.net framework assistant, No script, Categorian and HTTPS everywhere.
I disabled everything in safe mode with the exception of no script. Noscript still didn't work when I did the restart. I did a delete and reload on no script again, and it still didn't work. So, I backed up my bookmarks and deleted FF and reloaded it. It's working now, but I wish I knew what caused it and why so I don't do it again. Perhaps FF got corrupted? Thoughts or suggestions?

It's likely that's your problem, see https://adblockplus.org/blog/the-return ... -assistant
(yeah I know that blog entry is old but we're also still running win xp computers that try to install that addon)

Re: Probably dumb question
Barbaz and Hecuba,
Should I have said I use XP Pro as an OS? I know it's supposed to be going away. I much prefer it over Win 8, and running a 10+ year old laptop, I'm not sure it could handle upgrading to Win 7. I have heard that they are going to keep XP pro a while longer. I'll have to wait and see though.
I've tried deleting the .net update thing early days when it populated since I never added it to begin with. I never have been able to fully get rid of it, so I figured it was a micro$oft thing. I don't enable it, but i couldn't get rid of it either.
If I am reading correctly, the article that Barbaz linked to says that there is an Adblock work around to get rid of the extension. However, I don't see much more than that. My version is one that is much more recent than the one talked about in the article, so maybe I am missing something. I always have to look up how to block something since I don't do it often enough, so I am sure that its something that I am missing.
Thanks for all of your help though! I do appreciate it

We use Ubuntu exclusively at home - and having it "just work" is a requirement.
