FlashGot Problems, help!

Hello, I have tried searching the internet for information on this problem to no avail. So here I am asking for your help to figure it out.

I have been using FlashGot for a few months now, I find it to be a very useful add on to Firefox. However, I do not know how to control the extension the resulting downloaded file will have.

It used to download files as .flv which was fine, then it randomly started downloading files as .videoplayback which I had to rename as .flv but still worked. Now it seems to have decided to download flash videos as .mp4

Is it possible to specify that FlashGot downloads files only as .flv? If so how is this achieved?

In my FlashGot > Options > Downloads Tab where it says "file extensions jpg mpg mp3" The "Add" button is greyed out.

I would really appreciate some help with this, so thanks in advance to anyone willing to enlighten me.

I guess its going to depend on what & how the file is being served.

With Youtube, you may have the option for either FLV or MP4, but that choice is up to you by choosing a particular parameter on the Youtube webpage.

URLs of these rouge file extension video downloads?

*Sigh..

I'm having a similar problem. It keeps saving in a blank file type which looks like a piece of paper in the pic below, "Elijah". When i right-click to properties it doesn't give me any options to change the file type but simply says, "Type of file: File" and the name of the file will usually end with _videoplayback as well. They open up just fine, but only after another window opens and i have to, 'Choose the program you want to use to open this file'. Down the bottom of that window, 'Always use this selected program to open this kind of file' is there but isn't selectable.. On the other hand certain other files seem to be fine and still appear and load as they should eg, text files for Word and OpenOffice and other media like iTunes. This only started happening recently and when using Flashgot.

In facts, it depends on how the server decides to serve the file.

It's not "FlashGot deciding", is the web site which switched to mp4.
Just use a player which can handle mp4, such as VLC

The option to change the extension is the "Rename" command. Just rename the file name to end with ".flv".
