[RESOLVED] Bug? on Canon Support

Can someone who is running Fx 3.x with latest dev build of NS 1.9.5.3 check this link and tell me what they get please?

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... elid=10241

When I click on the drivers & download tab (far right of the tab sequences) it gives me the reviews instead of the driver os drop down list and etc. Testing on IE shows everything fine, so any idea if this is an NS bug or causation or something else on my installation. Simply turning off NS fixes the problem but allowing the site (which it is) will not fix the problem.

I am exhausted so I will venture that I MIGHT, only MIGHT be just doing something stupid, however its doubtful, but I would appreciate Giorgio or anyone else with some patience to look into it and tell me what they get please. Many thanks in advance.

It worked fine for me on F2, but I allowed *only* Canon.com, *not* customersat3.com, google-analytics, *AND* NOT the green blocked sub-object, *@http://reviews.usa.canon.com. Also, allowed nothing in Adblock. Entered OS (XP) and list of drivers available for d/l appeared immediately.

Shouldn't be an F2-F3 difference here, I would think. Try going back to blocking everything, (esp. the review script). and just allow canon and see if it works.
Yeah I agree the result is crazy, but let's see if we can make it work first, then figure out why.

I'll ditto Tom's results in SeaMonkey 2 (basically FF35) - working as expected.

Now if canon.com is NOT Allowed, then your link as given (which is defaulting to the Drivers & Downloads "tab", does show both "No Additional Downloads Available" AND also "Summary of Customer Ratings & Reviews".

So it appears that you may be blocking canon.com outside of NoScript?

(I'm actually still on NoScript 1.9.4.9 in this particular Profile.)

That's the frustration, I am NOT blocking Canon anywhere and it IS allowed, and as Tom, I didn't allow customerstat3 or google either. I don't understand why it does this. This happened a while back after an NS update and then went away and started working fine and then again now. ARGH!

Create a new Profile.
Install NoScript.
Load canon & see what happens.

Funny wise guy, I am developing a real hatred for the words "Standard Diagnostic"
I have done most of it but let me do what therube said and get back to you, this machine has a backup clean profile ready to go, should be quick.

Ok, so the test profile worked fine. I hate this. Do anyone of you happen to have RP and ABP installed too so you can help me eliminate them as the problem? Anyway, its 2 AM and I have a busting headache and exhausted, SD will have to wait till tomorrow. In the meantime if you can find a possible conflict, please let me know. This is my extensions dump list, let me know if anything jumps out at you. TIA.

Yikes! 52 addons! No wonder trouble-shooting is a headache! :)

I *don't* have either ABP (do have ABO) or RP, so yeah, those might be prime contenders. If you disable both of those and leave everything else alone, does it work? What if you enable each in turn?

Yeah it seems like alot but if you actually look at WHAT they are and WHAT they do, they are all security, development related or interface tweaks which don't actually affect the function of the browser. In fact most of them have little to no overhead that is noticeable and have been picked very carefully to serve a real purpose and many of them are actually disabled. There is a few that just personally appeal to me for my own usage and most might do without but its hardly unreasonable, why have the ability to create and use addons if we snicker at it when its used? By that logic using Chrome is the best way to go, or better yet Lynx.

Now I did disable ABP and RP and still no go and none of the other addons actually modify or interfere with the page content or how they are loaded, so I am not sure why their existence would cause an issue but since it works without ANYTHING installed, something has got to give. If there is something causing this, which obviously is, then I need to know why they are given their lack of content processing involvement. Unless another extension has a poorly written component that is failing to assert because of something unrelated.

I'm not familiar with most of those other extensions, but since Ghostery has come up a couple of times in the past as having conflicts with NS, it's worth a try disabling it. Can't hurt. GL.

As a matter of courtesy and thanks for the help of everyone here, Tom, therube, Alan, and on a previous occasion Giorgio who tested and tried to help me figure out why the Canon site would not give me the driver download OS dropdown selection, I wanted to update you that I discovered the issue to be caused by a rouge filter from Adblock Plus (*/webtrends*$script) that for some reason cripples that content.

I am not sure why crippling webtrends would cause this loss of functionality but I have reported it on the False Positives section of the Adblock/Easy List in the hopes that they will look into it and find out why its causing this issue. I have confirmed that if I disable ABP on that page or just that filter, the problem is resolved and it shows up and therefore not an NS issue as suspected and my apologies for that.

In the meantime I wanted to updated everyone and thank you for taking time to help me. Turns out it wasn't the number or type of extensions that was causing the issue, but rather a rule enforced by an extension.

That filter doesn't exist in EasyList or EasyPrivacy anymore. Update your filter list subscriptions from the Adblock Plus preferences panel with Ctrl-Shift+T or Filters > Update all subscriptions. Does your problem persist with the new filter sets?

Yes as I discussed with Ares here: http://forums.lanik.us/viewtopic.php?f= ... 46&start=0 it turns out its part of fanboy's stats filters so I have sent over a note to him to look into it and have not heard back yet. At least knowing what's causing it, I can disable it until it gets fixed. Its a small and narrow false positive that I can live with knowing what's causing it.
