Firefox hangs on close

Hi,
I am having a problem with Firefox failing to close when I exit the program. Although the window closes, an instance remains open in the Task manager. Each time I run and close Firefox, a new instance remains open, clogging up memory. When I try and terminate the process in Task manager, I get the message "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." Ultimately, I have to reboot to get rid of the open instances.
I am using Firefox 25.0.1 and Noscript 2.6.8.5. Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium sp 1 on an Intel i5 HP machine. I have Norton Internet Security ver. 21.1.0.18 installed.
I disabled all other add-ons and extensions in Firefox and the problem still occurred. When I disable Noscript, Firefox exits without hanging.
I have uninstalled Noscript and installed earlier versions back to 2.6.8.1. Problem still persists.
Any ideas on how to fix? Your help is greatly appreciated. I love Noscript and would like to keep using it.

i think this is a firefox issue, nothing to do with noscript
also reported with adblock plus
here
you could try removing firefox 25 and installing firefox 24 esr or 26.0b1 (available at
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org ... /releases/)
otherwise see the abp thread for suggestions

I have the same problem since updating to ff 25, and still with 25.0.1. After reading this thread:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... eaf0deb5c3, I saw that private browsing might be the problem for some. So I turned private browsing off, set all to clear upon closing, and in addition to that, I have to load in at least one page prior to closing FF (as on startup I have blank page.) That's resolved the problem for me.

Hi,
I have the same problem but only on Windows 7 Home. In fact, my other PC with Windows 7 Professional doesn't show the issue.
My setup: FF 25.0.1, NoScript 2.6.8.6.
Start Firefox, default home page opens, close Firefox, inspect Task Manager: Firefox process still appears in the list, memory apparently unreleased. When trying to terminate it, I get "Access denied". I also tried with "taskkill /f /pid" from the command prompt to no avail.
Tried also to start with a brand new FF profile and install NoScript as the only addon: same issue.
I'm neither using AdBlock nor Private Browsing so I can't say if these things are related.
Like I said, I don't have any such problem on Windows 7 Pro with same FF and NoScript versions.

I found a similar issue. On a Windows 8.1 PC, a freshly installed firefox 28.0 browser with the noscript plug-in 2.6.8.19 will cause:
(1) multiple firefox.exe processes (as seen in task manager) to persist after all firefox browser windows are closed; and
(2) the same stale firefox.exe processes will persist across Windows 8.1 restart.
(3) task manager's end-task button does not seem to be able to kill these stale processes.
Would appreciate any advice on this problem.
Thanks,
-KCC

So if you disable NoScript, FF no longer hangs on close?
> firefox.exe processes will persist across Windows 8.1 restart
Explain.
You're actually restarting the computer or you're just putting the computer to sleep?

Heh. Can't comment on Win8/8.1.
What Plugins do you have?
Are you clearing history/cache on close?

If it helps at all, I've written a small program that provides a clunky-at-best workaround for the problem. No charge.
You can download it (and the source code) here:
