Generic URL rewrite/redirect support?

While looking into ways to modify URLs on the fly I came across this post from early 2011:
http://forums.informaction.com/viewtopi ... 886#p24872
where Giorgio mentioned the possibility of adding "Rewrite" support to ABE. What ever happened to that idea? Is there some way, now, to use NoScript/ABE to modify URLs in a general way and for purposes other than forcing HTTPS?

I haven't heard any news. What kind of use cases do you have in mind?

1) Protection against webpage & email "link bugs" where the href is something like:
Code: Select all
http://www.nosey.invalid/log_and_redirect?destination=http://www.interesting.invalid/
2) Stripping affiliate ids such as:
Code: Select all
http://www.webstore.invalid/itemx.html?affiliate_id=12345
For both of these applications I think the redirector addon will work (haven't tried it yet) but I'd strongly prefer to not have to add another addon if I don't have to. There might also be some future case where I'd want the rewrite to apply to secondary requests and I'm assuming that redirector's page/document only limitation still exists.

It sounds like you're concerned about *privacy*, rather than security. NoScript is first and foremost a security tool, with privacy being a common side benefit.
You're probably better off using an extra, privacy-oriented addon.
