It depends on the Download Manager you're using.
If it's the built-in, just check Tools|Options|Main|Downloads|Always ask me where to save files.
But I strongly recommend to get an external download manager instead.

I wasn't too clear on what you meant but Giorgio already responded and I might just add that in the same place, you can also set the default save directory (second option) and select any folder and it will always download to that directory. Of course that is just what the default downloader in Firefox will do, as suggested by Giorgio, I would get an external downloader like FlashGot, DownThemAll or any other one out there really that works for your needs.

This is very helpful, do you know a reliable site for FlashGot downloads? Thank you

If you mean where to get FlashGot, then AMO, FlashGot.net or find the link through this forum. If you mean where to get content that works with FlashGot, they are all over the place and depends on what you want to download. There is no centralized location that we can suggest. Let us know if anything further.
