Firefox can't connect to server
Since I've updated Firefox to version 20, I had the error "Firefox can't connect to server" no matter which website I try to go on, but, If i deactivate Noscript, I can surf the net.
I 've already updated and reset all, including the rules in my firewall, but nothing changed.
I hope someone can help me.

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
Any messages in Error Console (Ctrl+Shift+J) when the problem occurs?

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
Have you made changes under Options | Advanced -> HTTP, ABE, or External Filters?
Does the problem persist if you do a NoScript 'Reset'?
(Backup first if needed.)

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
In the Error Console there is this error every time I open a tab: this.docShell is null chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml
I haven't made any changes under Options | Advanced -> HTTP, ABE, or External Filters and I tried to reset all, but the problem persists. Also, in order to surf the net, I have to fully deactivate NoScript, not just stop blocking scripts.

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
I did some more tries and find out that if I reset the system and user rules in ABE, meaning that they will not appear during the current session, all works as it should. But every time I restart Firefox the rules are recreated and the problem of not fiding the servers still remains.
I hope it is something more to work on.

What are the rules that are recreated on restart?

I mean the groups of rules #SYSTEM and #USER in the ABE section.therube wrote:> every time I restart Firefox the rules are recreated
What are the rules that are recreated on restart?
Now I am writing with NoScript activated. It started with the same problem of connection with servers, I clicked the restor button (last one on the right) and the two # are disappeared: I have the two section completely empty, but, when I restart Firefox, the # reappear and I have to to the same thing again, if I want to have NoScript activated.

Yes, but what exactly is being restored on restart?
(BTW, a line starting with '#' is a comment.)
Do you have 'Allow sites to push their own rules' enabled?
Notes about Reset:
Reset on the ABE window, clears any user settings, reverting to defaults.
Reset on the Options window, figures it did not do it just now, but just before, cleared ALL ABE settings. No SYSTEM nor USER nor anything in the Rules box. When it did act like that, bug.

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
"Allow sites to push their own rules" is not enabled, I tried to and Firefox can't connect to servers.
I try to explain what I do in pictures, hoping it will be easier to understand (they are in Italian, I will make a rough translation of them).
This picture shows the starting error message, which is the reason I'm asking for help: Firefox can not contact the server. It asks to verify the typing, the global connection and the firewall, but the typing is right, the connection works (I can send and receive e-mail, for example) and Firefox is allowed on the firewall.

This are the ABE settings as I open the options while the error is occuring. I select SYSTEM and USER, click the "Ripristina" button in the right corner, then OK.

Last one: the ABE mask after the previous operations and a refresh of the page; in the background, both Firefox and NoScript working as before the update to Firefox 20.

However, after closing and re-opening Firefox, it goes back to pictures 1 and 2.
Should I revert to an old version of Firefox and not updating it anymore? I haven't tried this way yet.

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
What does the SYSTEM rule show?
As a test, create a new, clean Profile.
Install only NoScript.
Does that work correctly?
The third shot is what I saw, at times, when doing a Reset.

This is what shown in SYSTES rule:therube wrote:What does the SYSTEM rule show?
# Prevent Internet sites from requesting LAN resources.
Site LOCAL
Accept from LOCAL
Deny
I found the same problem with only NoScript installed.
Also, it has been a couple of days that 2 updates for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 keep appearing even if I have already installed them. Could this be related?

Re: Firefox can't connect to server
OK, so the rules it recreates are the defaults, nothing odd in that respect.

No.
What kind of internet connection do you use?
Who is your ISP?
Are you running behind/through a proxy?
You're in Italy?

What kind of internet connection do you use? Router connected to the pc by ethernet cable
Who is your ISP? Telecom Italia
Are you running behind/through a proxy? No, simply ADSL connection to a dedicated line.
You're in Italy? Yes, I am italian.
By the way, thank you for your quick replies and for your patience.
