@geffra:
as you can see (post above) I've been able to post entering the captcha code (just once).
Since both this site's captcha and Paypal use cookies, I suspect there's something in your system interfering with them.
Also the fact resetting your NoScript preference didn't help and Opera is suffering of the same problem leads me to believe it's not a NoScript issue.

Did you say it happens also if you disable all the other extensions except NoScript?

Giorgio already confirmed this but just for the sake of redundancy, it works fine.

Yes.

The reason I've been suspecting No Script, is because after this happened on my main machine, I went to my 2nd machine, successfully logged onto Pay Pal, then only after making sure machine #2 did not have this issue I intentionally updated NS on that machine to see if that would trigger the problem & it did.

As far as i can remember, 3 changes were made to the 2 machines last week:

1. "Immunised" with Spybot
2. MS Power Point Patch
3. No Script Update

Sounds like the next step is to try a system restore on 1 of the machines, or I can use the workaround of deleting Pay pal cookies everytime I sign in. Since no one seems to be able to duplicate this, it must be some sort of issue with my machines or network. I can't find any sign of malware, rootkit or virus...............

Thanks for all your help & the NS program!

Also, the problem doesn't happen on IE 7 (which is a program I'm not fond of!), though it does halt for about 2 seconds at the point FF crashes.

I've finally discovered the cause & solution: The current shockwave player browser plug in & Pay Pal don't get along. Disable the plug in.
