flv stream stops

Post by Larry_D »

Hello,

I'm trying to record about one hour of a continous flv stream from:
www.getv.org
I'm using the Firefox internal downloader, (I also tried Download Studio which didn't work as well as the internal download mgr)

I click on the taskbar icon, (set to autostart download) and I select one of the two streams displayed
( one of the streams low-res version, which I don't want)

I start the recording and, after one hour, pause the download and close the browser - so I can rename the file and play it.

Recording is good - but it's only about 16 minutes long :?

Can anyone tell me why this recording just stops ?

Thank you,

Quick thought...

Resume is not supported.

So what is happening is that somewhere along the line something happens causing the connection to drop, & because it does not resume, what it does do is to restart from the beginning. When it did that, then up to the time you stopped it, all that there was was 16 min of video.

I've downloaded 323 MB so far, & that clocks in ~13 minutes (& counting).

I'll let you know how it goes if I don't run out of disk space (which is a good possibility) prior to it finishing.

Sucks.

24 KB free disk space left.
Had to kill some stuff even to open this browser.

Anyhow, before I ran out of space ...

Downloaded 1.23 GB of the clip, 53 min of video & that was that.
(The full clip would have been 1:38:33. Don't know the total size, but lets just leave it at "sizable" ;-).)

On restart, I kind of expected it (my download manager at least) to overwrite the 1.23 GB clip that was already there, but instead it automatically incremented the file name (as: 2F457FB8-C001-437B-AF27-0D13AD88034E_HD3000(1).mp4).

In your case, suspect it did in fact overwrite the existing, starting anew from 0 bytes.

This makes sense, but you got more than I ever did (usually quits for me around 16 min / 250mb)
So maybe I need to just try other download managers ?? (which one are you using ?)

Thanks much for looking into this :)

I was using NetTransport, though would expect any download manager to work.
(At the time, I think I was getting ~400-500 KB/s down.)
