Reason: originally a complaint about the presence of the "Allow" button; became an interesting RFE

Re: Feedback: Added Allow/Forbid button on the site info pag

Post by Tom T. »

It was requested by other users. I sincerely doubt that it added more than a few hundred bytes, at most, to an add-on which, for all of its many powers, is still less than 2 MB in size.

I suppose we could add an about:config preference to remove that button, but that would add a few hundred more bytes.

It seems easy enough to ignore it if you don't like it, but if you feel that strongly, I'll ask Giorgio how much it enlarged NoScript's footprint.

Hi

If not already in white- or blacklist, Allow AND Block buttons should be present!

I don't understand how this statement relates to the topic. Did you mean to start a new topic?

NoScript blocks everything by default. If a site is not on the whitelist, then it is blocked, and a Block button would make no sense. However, what NoScript does have is 'Mark as Untrusted', which hides a site from the main menu if you're sure you'll never want to trust it.

Sorry, it's difficult for me in english ... but I mean it's related to the topic.

Of course, I know if a page is not in white- or blacklist, the site is blocked. Nevertheless also a block button can make sense in such a case ...

Here an example:

A site is not in white- or blacklist and I will make a check with WOT, because I don't know, it's a good or bad site - maybe I will add the site to the white- or blacklist (will allow or block permanently), so it's clear in future, it's a good or bad site, and a recheck isn't necessary in next time (of course, I know a "reputation" of a site can change) ...

... okay, I make first a SHIFT + LEFTKLICK in the NoScript-Menu, so that the info page appears, then a WOT-check. Now, there is a really bad rating for this site and I will BLOCK this site PERMANENTLY (add to the blacklist). But on the infopage, only a ALLOW button is present!

I hope, it's clear now :-)

Greetings,
Norbert

I think what we have here is a simple language issue. What you are asking for is a "Mark As Untrusted" button, which would permanently remove the untrusted site from the main menu. And as you said, then you don't have to check it in mywot every time it tries to run at a new site.

I don't think this is unreasonable; in fact, it makes sense to make the Untrusted decision while the information is still fresh in one's mind.
If it isn't too difficult to implement, I would support adding a "Mark As Untrusted" button to the site info page.

Editing the topic title to reflect the RFE.

AND Block buttons should be present
I agree.
I rarely (never) have blocked & you cannot block (Mark as Untrusted) unless the site is not Allowed.
So my first thought was to open Site Info & block it from there - but that option wasn't there.

Now that I kind of understand how to Mark as Untrusted, I may not need it on Site Info, but still it would be a convenience.

With SwissBIT's suggestion having two Mods in support, I'll ask Giorgio to consider this.
