Using Firefox with noscript I get to the following page: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us ... -steps.htm. Then just nothing. Waiting for Godot. Repeat enabling everything. Nothing. Try it in Opera, without the equivalent of noscript, no problems, download succeeds. Educate me, please.

Works for me as soon as I allow zonealarm.com.

In any case there is a link that says, "If your download does not start automatically, please click here", that if you click works even without allowing zonealarm.

I see nothing about a "Godot"?

Disable NoScript & see if you still have trouble.
If so, then the issue is not NoScript.

a) don't have zonealarm installed
b) no link saying "click here..." just a blank page. Blank. Completely blank. Nothing. Nada. Rien. Nichts. Nichevo.
c) "waiting for Godot" - just funny English, name of a play. Ignore, please.

I think there's a misunderstanding here.
When therube says "Allow zonealarm.com", he means whitelist the website address from NoScript's menu.
You don't need Zonealarm installed to do that.

I get a page looking like I would expect (IOW, not blank).

As a test, try a new, clean Profile with only NoScript installed.

Have Adblock Plus or some other "blocker" running? Maybe that's affecting things?

Maybe its your User Agent?

Could you try on a clean profile with just NoScript installed?

I removed my user-agent. Gives information away, supports poor programming and allows tracking. Empty user-agent.

Able to download with Chrome, also with empty user-agent.

Why not FF18 with empty user-agent and noscript?

Okay - I'll do that and let you know. It'll be Friday though. I will do it, don't like leaving things hanging in mid-air, like to know what's going on.

AdBlock Plus, been using that for nigh on 5 years. Nary a problem. But will investigate.

NoScript for a few days only, which does rather make one suspicious.

No criticism, can't believe how beautiful browsing is with noscript's control over javascript and plug-in media. With AdBlock it has been great, with noscript on top, even better. No intrusive ads, nobody keeping track, nobody annoying me with pathetic gubbins in Flash. And much faster without having to download crap.

But I do need to get the important stuff working, too.

Concerning tracking you should keep in mind that you are now pretty unique I guess.

Actually, it turns out from the browser fingerprinting test that an empty UA provides fewer bits of info than any standard UA. But wouldn't frequent switching among various UAs, including the empty one occasionally, help achieve the ultimate goal of making tracking more difficult?
