[UNRELATED] flash blocked despite "temp. allow all"

Post by walter »

Hi,
I would like to watch a flash-based streamed video from a TV website from Germany (www.br.de - Mediathek - video). I have enabled "temp. allow all" but I get the message "no flash found". I've also disabled AdBlockPlus on this site, but same error.
I get this error message on several other sites when they offer flash-based content. Usually I dont wanna see the flash stuff (that's why I use NoScript and ABP), but sometimes I need flash.
The only workaround is then to open the page with IE.
What do I do wrong?
Thanks
Walter

I got a message that archived data could not be extracted, but sometimes a site in Europe or UK will not allow someone from the US to access, because it costs them bandwidth and the advertisers will not pay to reach someone who is not likely to be a customer .

I can offer a little help: "Temporarily allow all" refers to scripting. If you have all of the Embeddings page checked, as I do, then Flash and other objects will still be blocked. After the page is reloaded, you should look in "Recently Blocked Sites". This now reveals "Temporarily allow all from

Code: Select all

http://mediathek-video.br.de
as well as from statsite.com. This time, "all" really means "all", not just script. It doesn't show up until script is allowed for the main site. Please try that.

It is annoying, but as you noted, many sites work in this manner.

By the way, you do not need to allow "all" of the universe, only br.de.
I hope this helps.

Hi Tom,
thanks, I tried as you describe but doesnt work: After the click on "Mediathek - Video" the new FF window opens. And in this window I dont get listed anything from br.de under "Recently blocked" , so I have no chance to allow "all" (including flash now) from br.de
Do you have any other ideas?
Thank you!

WFM.
Simply allowed br.de, then clicked the placeholder.
(I had no separate window open, but rather a small video displayed underneath the listing of the "days".)

Both Rundschau & Zeit fur Tiere (that I tried) worked.

As a test, create a new Profile, install NoScript & see if it doesn't work.

Strange thing. I've created a new profile without any add-ons. Even then I got the message "outdated version or even no flash at all".
But I can still open the page with IE. So I think this page is not compliant with (at least my) Firefox.
Thanks to Therube and Tom.

I was able to get it to work on both old and new Firefox. I did not go to the main page, but went directly to

Code: Select all

http://mediathek-video.br.de
This window has a menu where I can TA br.de.
In Fx 16, there was a Flash placeholder to click and OK.
In Fx 3.6.28, the page loaded without the placeholder.
It took a long time to load, and froze for a little bit, but eventually did load.

I have the RequestPolicy add-on, and had to do several rounds of allowing things. If you do not have this add-on, it is not relevant.

I clicked the video, "Faszination wissen". It played well on both browsers.
