Chrome Registration Error: -239
NoScript 1.9.2.3-dev
It's the typical SeaMonkey error (that I haven't gotten in ages), but my typical fix didn't (work).
I've got too much going on at the moment to try to figure it out ...

Problem may (likely?) is just something on my end ... but ... I've got too much going on at the moment to try to figure it out ... so can't restart (all) browser sessions (& for multiple Window Users too).

Clueless?
Restarted computer.
Installed latest SeaMonkey 1.1.17 build.
Deleted everything from my profile expect for my user.js file.
Still the error persists?
Second Profile too now has the same problem?

I thought it might be a localization issue.
locale\en-US is empty? Does that matter?
content/en-US does exist.
Guess that is not it? Looks like locale\en-US has been empty for ages.
Still might be something with it though.

Here is one that did work, & don't ask me why ... (I did purposely install FlashGot just prior.)
So after flashgot.jar (which does get placed into Profile/chrome/), it goes on to Locale.
And that is where it kicked out (above), but completed here.
After 1.9.2, I immediately & successfully installed 1.9.2.3.
But now, once again, Error -239.

SeaMonkey 1.1.16.
NoScript 1.9.2.3.
Same error -239
.
(Prior I had 1.9.2.2 successfully installed.)
Successfully installed NoScript 1.9.2.3 into SeaMonkey 2.

Restart SeaMonkey, and NoScript should install fine.
This is probably due to a bug in SeaMonkey classic, which breaks install when some previously registered chrome gets removed from content.rdf.
I forgot about it and cleared up some dummies, but looks like I need to keep them around as long as the old SeaMonkey refuses to die away.
So I restored them in NS 1.9.2.4 (which I'm about to release on AMO).
This means you will probably need to repeat the trick above in order to upgrade, but then everything should be fine.

I think I've got it.
SeaMonkey 1.1.16.
On a clean, new install of NoScript, NoScript broke between 1.9.2 & 1.9.2.1.
Looks like (noscript.jar) ... contents.rdf, prefContents.js, & prefContent.xul went missing & are needed.
With a clean, new install (attempt) of 1.9.2.1, components/noscriptService.js does not get written.

If 1.9.2 had been installed, then you would be able to update to 1.9.2.1.
But then another changed happened with 1.9.2.2, that persists through 1.9.2.3 that again broke things, resulting in the Error -239.

On a clean, new NoScript install (attempt) of 1.9.2.1 or greater, Profile chrome/chrome.rdf does not get modified, so in that respect, there are no NoScript lines to remove to make it work.
You can go from an existing 1.9.2 directly to 1.9.2.3.
You cannot install 1.9.2.3 as a clean, new install.
You cannot install 1.9.2.2 as a clean, new install.
You cannot install 1.9.2.1 as a clean, new install.
You cannot install 1.9.2.3 if in the interim you had installed 1.9.2.1 or 1.9.2.2 (which would only have worked had you installed 1.9.2 <or some earlier version, I'm guessing> prior).
(That all looks to be correct.)
((I'm I'll now look into the chrome.rdf change, which didn't seem to work - at least intially.))

Yes, they're the "dummies" I mentioned above, which do not serve other purpose than making SM 1.x happy and which I restored in 1.9.2.4.

. So I guess that part is now taken care of.

And most importantly, it looks like once you get into a screwed up position, the "original" hack:

Exit SeaMonkey
Delete (Profile) /chrome/noscript.jar
Restart SeaMonkey (SeaMonkey will be screwed up at that point)
Reinstall NoScript (1.9.2.4 in this case)
does work (again), so it should be relatively easy to recover from.

I really wish I knew more about SeaMonkey, I feel so helpless here and can't offer anything intelligent. I have been kicking around the idea of running SeaMonkey on one of the VM profiles to learn it, maybe I should start now. Kinda after the fact to help you but who knows, in the future I might be able to offer more intelligent help in this area.
