Re: GUI Suggestions
I never compared the manner in which the synthesiser speaks numbers to how a human would so that is correct. Now that you mention it I do recall that from the brief chemistry stint I had during my schooling. By the way, you made a minor error when linking; I think you forgot the r. When you correct it it redirects to '_constant'.

See? I *told* you I was a lousy typist! -- kidding. It was a copy-paste error, in which the entire URL at Wikipedia got selected except for the final "r". Fixed that, thanks.Identities Infinite wrote:By the way, you made a minor error when linking; I think you forgot the r.
I saw that, too. I told you it was more years ago than I care to admit. [laugh]. That's how I was taught it.When you correct it it redirects to '_constant'.
Of course, there were fewer elements to learn, and fewer moons of Jupiter and Saturn. But Pluto was still a planet. [grin]

Re: GUI Suggestions
A good reason to use Scriptish is seeing those WikiPedia redirects. By default the address in the location bar does not redirect and without that script I would have never known.

Re: GUI Suggestions
I don't allow scripting at Wikipedia, and any search term that has a built-in redirect does immediately redirect to the appropriate title, as when Avogadro's "number" redirected to "constant".Identities Infinite wrote:A good reason to use Scriptish is seeing those WikiPedia redirects. If there are multiple common meanings of a search term, and especially for acronyms, it redirects to a disambiguation page. One then examines the list of possibilities, and clicks on the link to the desired meaning.

It is not on NoScript's whitelist obviously but till I found the GreaseMonkey script URLs never redirected in the location bar for me.

I'm sorry, I was referring to the search box at Wikipedia's home page. I don't search from the location bar, nor do I have any search plug-ins. Personal preferences only, for simplicity and privacy.Identities Infinite wrote:It is not on NoScript's whitelist obviously but till I found the GreaseMonkey script URLs never redirected in the location bar for me.

Re: GUI Suggestions
I do not search from the location bar but if there is a URL I do remember I can type it and press Enter. The page to which you linked is a good example. If somebody sent me that link without the GreaseMonkey script I would have never known it redirected; it would still show as '_numbers' instead of '_constant'. I usually make educated guesses instead of searching on the page and usually they are correct but I should make use of it.

Re: GUI Suggestions
O/T: The text-style list of script sources for which surrogates are provided has been posted here, although it is expected that soon, Giorgio will create a new sub-forum, gathering all guides, tips, hints, etc. into one convenient, and sticky, place. So the location may change by the time you read this.
I would welcome your feedback as to how helpful that list was, versus about:config, or any other comments or suggestions.
And did you read my comment that the squiggly-bracket shortcuts are available to all now? The list is at http://forums.informaction.com/shortcuts.php
and can be reached by clicking the link SHORTCUTS which is to the right of the compose box, after several rows of smiley faces. Or just bookmark the link.

Re: GUI Suggestions
I forgot about replying to the braces question. I can use them and I do notice the SHORTCUTS link between those lines of dashes. Is there a way to make all that other stuff above that and below the subject field collapsable? When navigating to this multi-line field I must go all through that and even though it is on all phpBB-hosted forums it is a lot to hear every single time . The shortcuts seem much more useful than anything provided by BBcodes.
I will have to check Certificate Patrol. I would have not remembered to if I did not note that row.

Re: GUI Suggestions
I tired disabling smilies in the User Control Panel, and also disabled showing them as images versus their "emoticon" symbols, such as ;) for "wink". But the rows still appear. I'm afraid you'll have to use Scriptish and remove the following code block:
Or as mentioned, just make a bookmark, keyboard shortcut, or whatever to the SHORTCUTS table, located at
Below the subject field is the BBCode toolbar. If you want to remove it , try this: (it opens with a comment)

Re: GUI Suggestions
It does; now I just have to figure how to remove things using a script for all phpBB forums because just listing those blocks of code will not remove anything I do not think.

Re: GUI Suggestions
This is why I suggested a bookmark or keyboard shortcut to the shortcut list. Would it help any if I were to post a plain-text list of the shortcuts, using only the raw plain text letters followed by the corresponding link expansion -- one pair per line? I'd wrap it in code tags, so if you "select all" and copy, you can paste it into a Jarte document and keep it handy while browsing. I would omit those that are really only of value to moderators. Let me know - it wouldn't take long.
As for the BBcode tools, can JAWS be trained to ignore certain elements in a form? For example, after passing subject field, do some command that tells it, "In the future, ignore the following elements" - then run down the list of BBcode buttons, and after "s" for strike through, tell it to end the "ignore" list there? If not, it might be a good feature request for the JAWS vendor. I can imagine how tiresome it gets having to listen to all of them every time you post.
Alternatively, how about a "jump to" feature? After subject field, jump to textarea. I believe that the pertinent code is:
So you would just ask it to jump to "message-box", or to "class=input", or to <textarea>, with or without brackets as the case may be.
I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't have such a feature, as surely many pages have elements where you know exactly where you want to go, and want to skip everything in between.

Re: GUI Suggestions
The list would be good to have as a resource; it would save me time. JAWS can not ignore certain elements but I probably should use different navigation keys like e to move to specifically the next edit field. I just tried it whilst focused on Subject [single-line] and pressed e which put focus to this [multi-line]. I had no reason to use it before so that fixes the other things unless they are visual clutter.

Re: GUI Suggestions
Navigating directly to the edit field, if it works, was a great idea. I do use the BBcode toolbar and the smilies at times.
I did two versions of the list. The first one, in code tags, has the raw shortcut letters, without the braces, followed by the raw expansion, i. e., the URL tags, the URL, and the assigned name of the link. The second is not in code tags, so the raw letters will be followed by the resultant hotlink. I didn't know which would be more helpful, or possibly both.
Raw expansions:

Re: GUI Suggestions
I like how the first list shows the destinations. CertPatrol's options need some improvement in regards to accessibility. I wish there was an e-mail address. Have you ever tried to use SkipCertError? There is one site which has a self-signed certificate and without SkipCertError Firefox refuses to load it. It is a rtrusted site; I have known it since late 2009. I still have trouble grasping the entire certificate hierarchy and each level. Is SkipCertError counter-productive or is it necessary? It is the only way I could circumvent the errors.
