True enough. It's just not worth a rise in blood pressure.

I normally use FF for about 80% of what I do. After installing NoScript, when I started having problems, it was easier to start a Chrome browser and do some searching as I have it's home page set to Google. So yes, it is a legit post. I will try some of the options mentioned, but FF with RoboForm was working fine before I installed NoScript.

GµårÐïåñ: This, too, has happened before: Someone with a significant Fx or NS problem comes here with another browser to report it. Maybe Gary didn't add any further diagnostic info the first time, but he may find the culprit, which would be good for all RF users, and completely exonerate NS unquestionably.
Or maybe he'll tell
jeryray how great
Password Safe is, and everyone's hassles end immediately.
Cheers.

Password Safe is a password manager.
RoboForm is a password manager.
(I use neither.)
Other then that, that are feature differences between the two.
It is for these features that one may choose one manager over another. So while both may be very good managers, what one does may not fit the requirements of someone else.
I would expect in the context of this discussion, it is the form filling, the browser integration, features that RoboForm provides that is the primary reason a users use RoboForm. And that is a feature that Password Safe does not have. So using Password Safe as an alternative is not an alternative for those users.
Because RoboForm interacts with a browser, it can be affected by or it can affect the same. RoboForm, because it uses 'binary components", needs to update with every FF release, or else it simply does not work. Likewise, it is certainly conceivable that in its interaction with a browser in general, & associated extensions & other plugins, that things can break.

If it doesn't work properly, and the support is so poor, as these users are complaining, then what good are the additional features?

PWS interacts with the browser. It auto-fills username and password, and activates the login button.
I've had the same version for years, and it works on Fx 2, 3, 11....
And nothing has ever broken.
But if storing and auto-typing your credit card number is worth all of those hassles (shrugs) ...
I'd rather not have my credit card numbers stored anywhere on my machine, but that's just IMHO. YMMV.

Was there ever a resolution of this? I have FF 11 with RoboForm 7.7.5 (as of today). I have been having this problem for a while, but ironically JUST with logging into my Bank (WellsFargo). Every other passcode works perfectly without crashing. If I disable NS, it doesn't crash. If I don't go to my bank, RF doesn't crash. What was, if anything, the resolution on this?

It might be a special code issue with them, report the URL to their support and have them check but I haven't encountered a crash in a long while, specially since the very last update. If you are having issues, let them know so they can check the site code for anything special that might be causing the problem.

I JUST logged into WellsFargo on FF11, flawlessly. But I hate to sound like a broken record, or to
keep beating the same drum...
Hint: If you start at
https://www.wellsfargo.com/ , the page refreshes to online.wellsfargo.com, which also must be allowed. You may get a redirect warning. A Flash-type placeholder appears, but it's just the "We're verifying your identity" thing. I do nothing, and in a few seconds, the Accounts page shows.
That can be shortened. I just found that I could start at
https://online.wellsfargo.com , and eliminate the middleman. The Flash thing still appears briefly, then the page shows without further user action. (no need to click or allow the object.)
I prefer the simple and reliable, but everyone's mileage varies.

But that's not the point.
You are offering an alternative, & that's fine.
But people do use RoboForm, regardless of its problems, & if there is some unwanted interaction between it & NoScript, it should be looked into.

Agree wholeheartedly. But if you look at this thread, which now has 39 posts and almost 900 views

, *plus* search the Forum for "roboform", and see the many other issues, it seems that the program itself was not well thought out.
It's a burden on Giorgio to have to keep coming up with NS code workarounds, or for us to find user solutions. Surely there are less-problematic pw managers that do all the extra stuff that RF does and Password Safe doesn't? ... if not, then RF being such a PITA isn't worth it. So go to RF help and tell them the same thing: "So many people use NoScript, can't you make RF more compatible with it?"
GµårÐïåñ suggested a site coding problem. Certainly a possibility, but sites can't code for every possible add-on. So RF needs to adapt to any site that uses reasonably standard functions. Passsword Safe works everywhere I've ever tried it, which is in the triple-digit number of sites. IMHO. YMMV.

Tom, Thanks. I went to
https://online.wellsfargo.com, and I can login just fine using RoboForm. The page was already allowed. But, I still crash at the main page. What a frustrating weirdness. BUT! Huge thanks for the work-around. I've just updated my RoboForm URL to use
https://online.wellsfargo.com, and all is good.
Regards,
Bill

Its not so much that it needs to account for EVERY site code individually but given some special ways things are done, it needs to run a check for those fringe cases, much like how Giorgio adds all kinds of special hooks and tweaks for SPECIFIC sites, despite the general function of the extension. The main page has a funky redirect/post back that is causing the issue, not something they can do really because it detects and matches the domain correctly, pops up to hook it and the page redirects internally to another sub-set and if it catches it during the association hook process, BAM, crash it goes. Basically two processes trying to access the same memory space at the same time with one interrupting the completion of another. Any third party addon is vulnerable to webpage rapid fire style changes or loads. Its not just unique to RF, they just happen to get hit more often because their page algorithm is by far the most superior, comprehensive and therefore complex.

Apparently, Password Safe is not, although I'm only one user with maybe only five or six or seven years' experience with it across many web sites, including the one that still crashes for
bill.sawyer with RF...

Often,
simpler is
better.
Superiority need not imply complexity. The term for "achieving superiority with simplicity" is "
elegance".

Their detection is quite different my friend. I never meant to imply complexity is better or vise versa, just that RF does more than just store your goodies, it actually parses the pages, fills them accordingly and I doubt your tool does that. However, being a fair man, I am willing to give it a shot, give me the link. Just to be clear, yours will detect the domain and when it should pop up which which credentials, properly populate each field on the page regardless of how they pose the question and hook with any browser, right? Just checking. I have always been a KISS man (Keep It Simple Stupid) at least how I learned it, I am sure its not the right phrase. But sometimes genius of a tool breads complexity, not by intention but by side effect, look at NS v1.0 and now, good case in point.

Not sure what you mean. I click on an entry, click "B" for "auto-Browse to site". Yes, I must put the cursor in the username field myself, but that avoids a lot of scripting or other complexity that seems to be problematic for other tools. Click "A" for auto-type, and it enters user/pass and submits for you (it clicks whatever button, such as "sign on", "login". etc.).
It will generate crypto-strength passwords, with whatever parameters you specify: length, type of characters (alpha, numeric, keyboard, hex), and you can tell it to omit hard-to-distinguish ones such a number 1, letter l, letter O or number 0, etc .
It will store securely any notes you put there - challenge questions, PINS, credit card numbers... But it will not enter those for you, which is just as well, IMHO. (How would it know which challenge question gets which answer?) Copy/paste easily.
I have mine set up to launch the default browser inside Sandboxie. Can RF do that?
However, being a fair man, I am willing to give it a shot, give me the link.
It was
a few posts above.
Just to be clear, yours will detect the domain
It browses to the domain for you. You don't need to go there manually, so nothing to detect in that regard.
and when it should pop up which which credentials,
You decide when it should. See above. Click "A" for auto-type, or use icons or shortcuts to copy to clipboard.
Since it already knows what site you're on, yes, the matching creds.
properly populate each field on the page regardless of how they pose the question
Yes, although only user/pass are populated with auto-type, as mentioned.
and hook with any browser, right?
Available for Windows and Linux-based, with a Java version for Mac. Clearly, it supports Firefox.
All of this in less than 2 MB, and can be run from a flash drive without leaving traces on the host machine.
How big is RF? Will it run from a flash drive on a strange machine, as above?
