ooops, that's 1.9.1.2, not 1.9.2.
@Lundholm:
looks like you've been unnecessarily malignant.

@user
so it's since 1.9.1.2 up to 1.9.2.6, i.e. almost 2 months now :o
Seems Solaris-specific, otherwise there would have been some more complaints by now.
Could you try setting the noscript.stickyUI about:config preference to false?
Did you try both left and right click?
Also, can you see any NoScript-related message in Tools|Error Console when you click?

Not malignant, observant! The user changed his mind. This only shows how difficult troubleshooting can be. Good thing that you didn't spend one week on the wrong version. :)

@Lundholm
No, the user did not change his mind. Read more closely. I said that I tried 1.7.1, that worked, 1.8.1, that worked, 1.9.1, that worked, 1.9.2, that didn't. I could therefore conclude that the problem was introduced between 1.9.1 and 1.9.2, and from there was able to quickly narrow it down to 1.9.1.2.

Reread my first post:
The popup menu from the NS icon (bottom right of window) worked up through NS version 1.9.1, but is broken in 1.9.1.2 and later.

Yeah -- I uninstalled NS for a while....

Neither right- nor left-clicking produce any results. I do get the tooltips/status box if I hover over it, though. The error console is silent. Changing noscript.stickyUI had no effect as well. Anything else I can try?

Cheers!

That came off kinda snarky, didn't it. Sorry! Doesn't seem to be a way to edit posts....

Coud you install 2 or 3 other extension which deliver status bar icons (e.g. Adblock Plus, Greasemonkey, CS Lite or RefControl) and check which of them works (i.e. displays a menu)?
It might be a Firefox bug on Solaris which would be worth reporting (even though if it's Fx 2 only I doubt it would be fixed).

ABP puts its icon in the top left (at least on Solaris -- I seem to recall one at the bottom at home on the Mac), so there may be a different mechanism at work. Clicking its icon opens a pane in the bottom of the main window. My normal configuration for FF, btw, is ABP + NS. But as I said earlier, I started with a clean profile to test and so didn't have ABP installed when I first posted.

I've never tried Greasemonkey before so I don't entirely know what to expect. However, left clicking appears to enable/disable it (icon gets greyed out) and right clicking brings up a small menu.

Likewise, I'm unfamiliar with CS Lite, but with it both right- and left-clicking produce menus.

Does that help?

Cheers!

That's the ABP toolbar button, not the one for the status bar. Right-click on the ABP button and select Options > Show in status bar.

Ah -- got it! Left-clicking the icon spawns the preferences window; right-clicking pops up a menu. Middle-clicking disables.

Cheers!

If you right click on the content area, does the NoScript contextual menu you find here work?
And if you add NoScript's toolbar button to your toolbar (right click|Customize), does it work?
Do you get any error in Tools|Error Console on browser startup?

(I guess I'll have to install an Open Solaris VM to test there, in the end?)

No. I see NoScript in the main menu with an arrow to indicate a submenu, but no submenu appears.
And if you add NoScript's toolbar button to your toolbar (right click|Customize), does it work?
Is there another way to enable this? I don't see an option for it in Tools>Add-ons>NoScript>Preferences, nor could I find it in about:config (although I may not have been looking for the right words).
Do you get any error in Tools|Error Console on browser startup?
Good question. I'll have to try and see.....

Cheers!

You need to right click on the toolbar, select "Customize..." and then drag the button over the toolbar itself.

BTW, could you type the following in the error console and see what happens?

Code: Select all

alert(top.opener.noscriptOverlay); alert(top.opener.noscriptOverlay.ns);

Done. I get the NS button, but it does nothing. I see the "click" action (button takes depressed appearance), but nothing else happens. Nothing in the error console. (Same results for the main button and the drop-down.)
BTW, could you type the following in the error console and see what happens?
I get an alert box titled "Alert" with the text "[object Object]" and an "OK" button. Clicking "OK" spawns the second box, identical to the first.
(I guess I'll have to install an Open Solaris VM to test there, in the end?)
What are the odds that we'll discover this is a Solaris/Sparc issue and that it works fine on Solaris/Intel? ;-)

Hi Giorgio,

Have you had a chance to give this any more thought? I realise it's a low-priority issue....

Cheers!
