This particular discussion is extremely useful and helped me to solve the issue of the missing noscript icon. Note: the addon bar is on to display other addon's too.
Have upgraded from FF 3 to 4 last week and after fiddling a bit with the navigation toolbar the noscript icon in the addon bar seemed to be gone, although noscript seemed to be working. Grrr. I use it a lot to checkup (quick glance at the icon), with a keen for pages with partial allowed or any new scripts and I like the way where it sits at the right hand corner of the browser.
Steps to make it show up again are:
1. right-click navigation toolbar.
2. select "Customize"
3. drag noscript icon to the addon bar.
4. presto...
Thanks Giorgo for the good work!

My no script icon disappeared too. somehow the Yahoo toolbar interfered so we eliminated it, still can't get the no script icon back to where it was in the former version of Firefox, really frustrated, have been working with this problem for few hours. the icon won't drag, copy and paste to its former position at bottom of screen in status bar next to options button. any ideas?

You're frustration is understandable. Just to cover the obvious, you are selecting Customize before attempting to drag it, right?
"its former position at bottom of screen in status bar next to options button."
What
options button? What other extensions are you using? Maybe one of them is interfering.
There is no status bar anymore. It's replacement, the Add-on bar, is pretty much just another toolbar: one with a convenient location at the bottom of the screen for users accustomed to finding them there. You can drag any toolbar button into the Add-on bar. You couldn't do that with the status bar. Here are some things I'd like you to try, so we can zero in on a solution.
1) Can you drag the NoScript button to any of the other toolbars? Can you drag it to the left-end of the Add-on bar?
2) Can you drag any of the other toolbar buttons into the location you desire? To the left-end of the Add-on bar?
3) Try dragging the NoScript button so that it's just to the right of the flexible space in the Add-on bar. You should settle for this position if it works. That's where mine is. Here's why. Some of the other buttons in the Add-on bar may be non-moveable icons from other extensions which are expecting the status bar. Firefox 4.0 puts those icons
together at the right end of the Add-on bar. You can't put a toolbar button -- such as NoScript -- to the right of them or in between any of them.
Edit: Here are a couple of posts that helped me get some understanding of what changed.

I used customize and can move the icon to the add-on bar at bottom of screen, but it is to the left of the McAfee button. Before downloading version 4 Firefox it was in the far right corner. I could click on it and get the popup of sites which can allow temporarily or permanently. Now I click on the icon and it moves to middle of add-on bar and is faded out by the light blue color of the add-on bar. Not sure how to change that, plus it does not show the popup. Have to use the options button to get the list of temp and permanent allows. Liked it much better before downloaded version 4. A bit frustrating.

That just sounds just plain broken. Disable any McAfee extensions.

I've been fiddling with FF4 and No Script many hours and the outcome keeps changing and driving me crazy. First of all, it finally settled in the Add-on bar at the bottom of the screen, which is fine. Its there next to Ghostery, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. The same is true of No Script. Eg., it blocks 12 scripts on Ebay no matter what I do, even if I click for it to globally allow everything. Even if I log off Ebay,, close Firefox, then open firefox and change the No Script Options to allow everything, then log back on to Ebay. STILL scripts are blocked but not mentioned in the context menu, so there's nothing I can unblock.
Since downloading FF4, hovering on the No Script icon does nothing. Left or right clicking on the icon does nothing either. And sometimes the clicking on Options shows the context menu, but sometimes it doesn't.
I tried to get an old version of Firefox back, because No Script worked just fine with that. But if there is a way to get it back, I can't find it. Can you? I would be so grateful!

You have too many extensions active to troubleshoot this effectively. Create a new
profile and install only the
latest development build of NoScript in it. Are there any problems in that configuration?
If you haven't looked at the
General Troubleshooting Instructions yet, now would be a good time.

If you give up, Fx 3.6.16 can be found at
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Just install it and it will replace Fx 4.0. You don't have to uninstall Fx 4.0 first.

I have finally managed to fix this. In FF4 if you open the customize toolbar option and click on "Restore Default Set" at the bottom it will reset ALL of your buttons, but also gave me back the normal NoScript button with a dropdown. I'm so glad I can finally get back to using NoScript like I did on FF3

You can change this behavior from the NoScript Options|General panel.
THANK YOU for saying this!!! That hover business was really starting to piss me off!

OK, here's a weird one. I enabled the "Add On" toolbar, and if I select to display icons, then the NoScript icon is there. If I select to display text instead of icons, then the NoScript button is there, but it's invisible. The "IETabs", "UnPlug", and QRCode plugin icons are there and visible, though.
FWIW, I only want my navigation bar buttons to be text, and I'd prefer that my add-on buttons are all icons. FF doesn't seem to allow this to be set on a bar-by-bar basis, though. It looks like the problem is that NoScript is trying to display a text button, but that FF isn't giving it enough room.
Any chance that NoScript can just display an icon regardless of the text/icon setting, like IETabs, UnPlug, and QRCode seem to be doing?

OK, that was weird. Just after I posted that, NoScript started giving me a button on the add-on bar with verbose text descriptions of the status of scripts on the current page. Not sure what it was doing before.
I'd still rather have an icon. I'll go back through the forum and dig through the options and see if I can get it to work again like it used to under FF3.

It seems like it was acting as if "Status Bar Label" were checked, even though it wasn't. After I checked "Status Bar Label" and then unchecked it again, I'm back to the "invisible icon" behavior.

Many thanks Alan Baxter. I got Fx 3.6.16 back and now No Script behaves as usual. Life is too short to fight making two aps work together for good when they don't want to. Am I missing something by not having FF 4? I hope not.
Thanks gain,

I have tried everything in this thread, and more, with limited success (for example I cannot use Customize Toolbar because I cannot see the old Noscript icon anywhere, on any other toolbar). Sometimes I see the verbose text on the new add-on bar, but if I select to temporarily block a page the text disappears - which is annoying. Luckily the right click works, but why should I have to change the way I work unless there is a compelling reason. What I really don't understand is this change, seemingly just for the sake of change, and why Noscript, which seems to be an important extension, doesn't work properly.
Noscript wants to update itself constantly... yet this simple functionality doesn't work. Sorry for being annoying.... but I am annoyed.

You know, bugs happen.
This one happened because someone else asked for the icon only to be displayed on the add-on bar when icons+text is the selected mode.
"Text only" wasn't a very likely or widespread setting, and as such it's not been tested enough to spot this problem.
It will be fixed in next release.
Notice that the other extensions which you mention working as expected (by you), i.e. which keep displaying just the icon, do because they've not been updated to be fully compatible with the new Firefox 4 "add-on bar" era, and therefore still use the legacy (and deprecated) status icons which can't be moved around on toolbars.
In other words, glitches like this are the price we (me first, since it's costing a lot of extra work) pay to "progress".
