with shockwave flash 10.0 r42 disabled it doesn't crash, so looks like that's dodgy

The only extension/plugin I had (besides shockwave flash, natch) was skype buttons for kopete. Disabled that. Uninstalled & reinstalled iceweasel, purged and reinstalled iceweasel, even installed opera and tried on that - it still won't play, as it also won't on konqueror

I don't know what konq uses to play flash but opera looks in mozilla's directory as well as its own (which is empty) and that contains:

Code: Select all

$ lsl /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
total 72
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 2009-12-20 10:25 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root  4096 2009-11-28 18:26 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    34 2009-12-20 10:25 flash-mozilla.so -> /etc/alternatives/flash-mozilla.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 61200 2009-10-14 18:22 libskypebuttons.so
so I guess that's the problem: looks like both flash versions 9.0 r999 and 10.0 r42 are buggy in their ways, at least on this system.

What's slightly odd is that I think I did have the flash player stuff working a few days ago, but I may have done an upgrade which broke it around the same time the problem with noscript occurred.

UPDATE:

I suspect it's The Wrong Thing(tm) to do but I copied over libflashplayer.so from my Lenny machine (flash 9.0 r3) and now it works
And NoScript 1.9.9.29 works with it too (phew!)
