Hi All,
This problem seems to be solved: I've changed the download manager from Wget to KDE Kget and now the downloaded videos play in stereo. FYI (and Kubuntu users out there) only VLC (VideoLan) and Kdenlive (a video editor) play the file correctly - in other apps (Audacity, Kaffeine, Dragon Player) the sound is highly distorted. To extract the audio I open the file in Kdenlive, render the project using the "Audio only" option and save the file in WAV format. Perfect!
