as far i can tell, 1.9.8.1 works for me. I will keep on testing, but at the moment it looks good.

I was having some issues with 1.9.8 in xp sp2, sites were hanging, and firefox was very slow opening multiple tabs.
1.9.8.1 seems to have things back to normal.

I too am a Mac OSX user, (10.4.10), and was having the same trouble that others have posted about in this thread. For example, I was having trouble accessing weather.com. Anyway, I disabled ABE, and it seemed to fix the trouble. I will wait to see what others report about the development build 1.9.8.1 before applying it to FF.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification! Appears to work fine with OS 10.4.10 on my Mac. And my FF3 is faster as well.

I was seeing issues with WinXP and Win2k with 1.9.8 that were seemingly fixed by 1.9.8.1 Is there anything MacOS-specific to the fix?

The issue has been labeled as Mac OS X specific because it had rather dramatic effects (the whole browser being unusable) when you visited some sites on Mac OS X only, probably due to a bug not in NoScript but in the DNS client implementation on Mac OS X.
That said, some less severe slowness issues have been reported (even though I couldn't reproduce them) on other OSes especially under adverse networking conditions, and the fix seem to work for those as well.

I am running Ubuntu Linux, with Firefox on a Dell Laptop. The Script Blocker is ver. 1.9.8.4, and when I go to Weather.com I too am getting jammed up and verrrry slow, if not stopped. I do know from previous experience that Weather.com does some very intrusive techniques and will cause an unprotected system to slow to a crawl.

Firefox freezes when trying to allow ytimg.com to view videos on youtube.

To reproduce:
go to youtube to see a video
it states "... no javascript" (from past experience only ytimg.com needs to be allowed)
click the "S" icon on the lower right end of the status bar
select allow temporary ytimg.com and that popup menu freezesup
the browser is frozen
the whole desktop is frozen !!!

I kill the browser process remotely and the desktop is "unfrozen".

Are these last two related to the Mac issue of this thread?
If not, they ought to be split out.

@rg, as a test, if you create a new Profile & only install NoScript does it still freeze?

@DonF, any particular page on weather.com where this happens?
Does weather.com use Java?
What domains have you Allowed on weather.com?
Do you use the "brightcove" plugin?

For this system (clean profile, all NS defaults) to play youtube content, youtube.com also has to be allowed. And has always been that way in my experience.
However, following your steps...

That behaviour not seen here. The menu is sticky, however, and remains there until I change focus by clicking on the youtube page -- at which point the expected NS behaviour of the page refreshing but not yet showing the video - - which won't be shown until youtube.com is also allowed.
Nothing in Fx freezes, nor does any process appear to be overloaded.
Your only needing to allow ytimg implies that you've already got youtube.com whitelisted. I tried your steps with youtube whitelisted before I visited the page, and videos played as expected.

Looks like something other than NS is causing your problems. Following therube's advice will be a good beginning to finding the problem with the Standard diagnostic for Fx Extension issues, I'm confident.

i run ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid ibex) have ff 3.0.13 installed and noscript 1.9.8.7
i encountered the same issue: before i thought it was a "flash-plugin" problem, then i tried out all of them (proprietary, nonfree, gnash) nothing changed.
if accessing youtube.com (e.g.) and temporarly allowing youtube.com and ytmg.com (in order to make the page re-load without noscript blocking flash, firefox freezes,
it gets stuck and i can do nothing, cannot click anywhere at all (have to enter tt1 and kill the process from bash).
in case i "allow scripts globally" before to enter youtube.com then i can watch the videoclips without any problem.
Of course the same thing happens with all the websites that have some flash content. After reading here even if it seems to be a Mac OsX issue only, i tried your temporary
solution by disabling abe, nothing changed. What do you suggest? I like noscript, ive been using it for years now and it never gave me this kind of problems.
I'll get here everyday to check if there's any reply to this post.

Maybe it's an extension conflict.
Could you try Standard Diagnostic?
