(I mentioned video [@openload, as it was] here, 5.0rc2 & Video Being Blocked, in case there's any relationship?)

@Tree: Youtube serves several different versions of the video page, seemingly at random. They have lately been switching versions more frequently.

It sounds to me like your NoScript setup works with some versions of the video page, but not others.

I'm not sure whether your issue is related to this issue or not.

I wouldn't be so sure. Since Firefox 28 was the last version before Australis happened, you might prefer to stick with 28. But let's be clear about what your machine is capable of.

Firefox 12 was the most recent release to drop support for any Windows versions. And the remaining Windows XP support, i.e. what's in Firefox 28, won't be dropped until Firefox 53. So it's not a question of the OS.

If your machine is so old that your CPU doesn't support SSE2, you can use Firefox 45 ESR. Or, if you don't care about the latest Firefox security updates, Firefox 48.0.2. Current versions of NoScript still support both of those Firefox versions.

It just stop updating. What you have will continue to work. This stuff is Free Software, you are free to continue using whatever version you like for as long as you like.

Hmm. The thing is, I'm not sure my desktop machine can still run anything past 28, which is why I kept with it. My laptop runs modern stuff, so no problems there. The desktop runs a pentium 4 chip I think, and I don't know if later versions of firefox run on that, never mind the older OS. Any suggestions?

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4, that desktop supports SSE2. It should be capable of running the latest version of Firefox.

I suggest you give the latest Firefox a try, as follows:

1) Completely quit Firefox, then copy C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\ to an external disk.

2) Eject the external disk.

3) Download the latest version of Firefox. Don't install it yet.

4) Into Windows Control Panel > Add or remove programs, and uninstall your existing Firefox. Make sure you select to KEEP your personal data.

5) Once that's done, install the Firefox you downloaded in (3).


Can't make the latest Firefox work for you? Here's how to revert back to version 28 -

1) Windows Control Panel > Add or remove programs. Uninstall Firefox.

2) Reinstall Firefox 28 from your installer. If you don't have the installer, get one from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/28.0/

3) Delete the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\, if it exists. Then copy in the backup you made.

4) Start Firefox and double check that it's working.

Marc_W, if you do try a more recent Firefox, could you please also try NoScript latest development build 5.0.1rc1?
