Testing:
- Clean profile: same result
- Use PaleMoon 24.6.2 instead of SeaMonkey '2.35pre' (based on Gecko 38.0.1): seems to work, double checking... and still seems to work
- SeaMonkey 2.33.1: same as '2.35pre'
I was going to also try updating all the packages on the (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) server, but I'm not sure how useful that'll be given that PaleMoon works.
I now also think this probably isn't a VirtualBox bug.

After discussion with _AxS_ on IRC, this was determined to be a server problem. As such I decided to try upgrading all the packages on my server... (as it turned out some of the packages that could be updated were apache2 related...) and it seems to have fixed the problem.
