One of my many (all too many) pet peeves, is people who end statements with question marks. My least favorite is perhaps "I have a problem?" as though the poster does not even know if he/she/it has a problem. Yes, I know, the teacher in me again makes its all-too-frequent appearance.
Returning to something that is actually of import, why one thing works for me, not for you, that is quite far removed from my cognizance

Actually it is a change between 2.5.7rc1 & 2.5.7rc2.
noscriptService.js:
Code: Select all
8c8
< const VERSION = "2.5.7rc1";
---
> const VERSION = "2.5.7rc2";
4727c4727
< for each (var r in replacements) {
---
> for each (let r in replacements) {
4734c4734
< r.object.parentNode.insertBefore(p, r.object);
---
> r.object.parentNode.replaceChild(p, r.object);
How fascinating. Of course, it means nothing to me, as it is not a language I recognize. Now, were you to post it in Anglo-Norman, for example, something that actually does mean something to me, and which is, of course, of vital importance and meaning to most people--okay, i had best stop right there!

I just successfully watched a CNN RSS-feed video, using NoScript 2,5.6rc2, Firefox 15.0.1, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Totally weird: Having reported yesterday that I can now play CNN videos, today I have to report that they do not work. I tried three which did not work, restarted Firefox, tried again, to no avail.

Why this one worked is totally beyond my comprehension; I can only report that is worked, and that it appears on-screen in a different format from the videos that did not work earlier today:

Right now, both your link above and the usual-format videos play after TA turner.com and cnn.com. Must click Flash placeholder for the "normal" ones.
NS 2.5.7rc2, on both Fx 15.0.1 and Fx 3.6.28, on Win XP.
I won't use a question mark; I will just say that with all these changing test results and the inability to reproduce consistently any problem, I am clueless.
I trust that that declarative sentence sits well with your sensibilities, having been a teacher of many things myself, ranging from academics to business to sports.

? (That is just for fun, but it also serves to express my wonderment) I just installed NoScript 2.5.7rc3, then brought up a bookmarked CNN video that had refused to play previously, and once I clicked on the NoS "hold on a moment, are you sure you want to do this" icon, the video commenced to play.
As a believer that statistics can prove anything the compiler wants to demonstrate, I can now conclude that my statistical sample on one is valid.... (I shall ignore one of my previously posted samples, wherein what worked for one CNN video then did not work for any such a day later, thus proving that that sample of one was only valid for one day.)
====
Just for more fun, Tom, were it relevant--which it certainly is not--we could engage in a contest to see which of the two of us has taught more subjects, such as my having taukght history, French, and English, coached soccer, ice hockey and track, taught canoeing, backpacking, firefighting, et. cet., but as none of that has any relevance to NoS, nor to the improper use of question marks nor other such matters, I won't even post that here.
On the other hand, you wrote that you are clueless; I know that I could win a contest as to who is the most clueless....

What part of me saying it was behaving inconsistently and weirdly and has been reported by me and Giorgio is working to figure out what it is or even if it relates to NS or FG or just an artifact of CNN screwing with their code again was unclear? Hence the inconsistent and difficult to reproduce issues you are facing and why Giorgio and I never posted again. Patience anyone? I suppose one good came of it, you kept trying and proved to yourself it had nothing to with NS, that's something I guess.

I don't even have FlashGot, so please mark FG off the list of possible issues. There, that is a solid piece of info.
I don't see the harm in posting additional test results under various circumstances; using different versions of NS, browser, and OS; type of video at CNN and its source, etc. We never know which apparently-random datum will give the "Eureka!" moment, do we?

Puzzled Once Again: Were it a contest, I would call it a draw, merely for your having used the rapidly-disappearing subjunctive.

On a more serious note, my cluelessness was specific to the root cause of this topic's issue. I'm sure that I am more clueless than you in some areas, and you more than I in others, as would be any two people on Earth.
Cheers!

In the on-going, totally inexplicable saga of CNN videos, I am constrained to report that, while still using NoScript 2.5.7rc3, which worked once yesterday, now does not work.

But alas, it worked for me fine today and all day. While yesterday and two days ago it was a nightmare. Also, although it was not showing up in the GUI, I had an artifact of an ABE rule that I had tested that showed up in the raw JSON view which could have been a wrench, I removed it and it made no difference, still hit and miss it would screw things up. Now, have pretty much confirmed for a LONG time now, that if you have Ghostery installed, its piss poor coding results in ALL KINDS of crap happening, nothing to do with NS but it interferes with it. We also have found that too many or certain rules in ABP tend to do more harm and are WAY TOO aggressive causing issues, but in a pure NS environment, its hit and miss and although doesn't happen often, it does. Now adding other addons, and the rate practically skyrockets, suggesting other addons are just piss poorly coded. Again, nothing clear as to what's up, for all we know, it could just be some dumb newbie hired to run videos at CNN who is just making stupid mistakes. Who knows. I am not against you guys discussing it, go for it, beat it to death all you want, I am all for it, just worried that it will simply create undue frustration and resentment for no good reason, that's all.

Ignoring the implied "threat" in the previous message in the thread, I am now reporting that I just successfully played a CNN video. One possible reason for the change since yesterday's failure is that I restarted the computer twice earlier today;; the first restart was not what I call a `clean reboot,' wherein the "please wait" circular icon does not start rotating immediately after first entering the password, and the desktop icons don't show up quickly once the wait is over. That having occurred, I restarted a second time, which was, to my eyes, correct, and a few minutes ago, I happened to click on the CNN video in question.
Obviously, I have no way of determining if the reboots fixed the CNN problem, but this having taken place, I shall try to remember to reboot if/when I again encounter a CNN video problem, to see if, having done that, the video then plays. What that will prove, other than that it might allow the videos to play, is not something that I would have any way of determining.
Finally, for this missive, I shall also report that, until recently, I never had any CNN video problems, but, of course, I also have no idea as to why that might have been nor do I have any idea as to why the problems now exist.

To join in the fun.. The clips posted in this
post played well in XP SP 3 but not in Win 7 x 64 yesterday. But today in all the OS they have taken a common stance of refusing to play. By the way are the CNN guys reading this thread and kidding around...

Not sure if this is linked but I can no longer get Youtube videos to play. The page will load fine, but the videos themselves will not. Currently on NoScript 2.5.6

You have
youtube.com and
ytimg.com in your Whitelist?
I sometimes have to wait a long time for a video to load, even though I have a fairly high-speed connection (10 Mbps down, 1 up).
Perhaps the site is very busy. Others seem to load quickly, even other results from the same search.
I don't think this is related to the main topic here, so if the above tips don't help, it might be best to start a new topic, link us to a few videos that won't play for you, list your add-ons, etc.

As promised, wherein please read "threatened," herewith a quick update: Using NoScript 2.5.7rc5, CNN videos have been playing. This morning, the computer had, as it ought to have, awakened to run the morning SupeAntispyware daily quick scan, and gone back to sleep. I woke it, did my usual morning on-line computing, and later found that, although the machine was set to go to sleep after two hours of non-use, it had not so done. I changed the power setting to two minutes, and found that, once again, something had taken place to prevent sleep; I certainly wish I knew what is doing that, as I don't like having to frequently restart to restore the sleep function. ( did have a bout of something removing the hibernation file, but that is not the case now, and hibernation shows as being active.)
Having found that sleep was not working, I then tried a CNN video, which, to my surprise, worked correctly--which is what I had written previously I would try to remember to check. Apparently, the lack of sleep is not a proximate cause of CNN video failure, and also it appears that, at least for me, NoS 2.5.7rc5 works quite well for CNN videos.
