[10] Taskbar Icons r Reordered on open from Session Restore

Post by therube »

[NoScript 10] Taskbar Icons are Reordered upon open from Session Restore

Happens in 10.1.8.23rc1 & also 10.1.9.rc1.
I don't know how far it might go back?
(I can't believe no one has noticed this before?
Doesn't anyone use multiple windows?)
I'm pretty (?) sure earlier (no idea how early) versions of NoScript 10 did not cause this to happen.

verbatim copy from, https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=19550
as the STR equally apply, except:
1) install NoScript 10
(Windows) Taskbar Icons are Reordered when open from Session Restore

PM 28 (Win7 x64)
(I happen to be using the "portable" version, though I don't see where that should matter.)

New Profile
Set, Home Page to about:blank
Set, When PM Starts to -> Show windows & tabs from last time
Quit
Restart PM

Open 3 additional widows (so now a total of 4)
In each window do a search for the "number" of that window's relative position on the (Windows) taskbar
So window 1, do a search for '1', window 2, do a search for '2' ...
Taskbar icons show '1 at DuckDuckGo', '2 at DuckDuckGo' ...

Quit
Restart PM (should load from Session Restore)

Note the numbering of the windows.
Most likely there are not in 1,2,3,4 order.
1 will be 1.
Others are not deterministic.

Quit
Restart PM

Note the numbering of the windows.
Repeat...
s/PM/FF/g
In the case of PM 28, it does this "natively".
In the case of FF 10, NoScript causes it.

(An earlier "reorder" thread, https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 10&t=23319 [& there have been others predating that]. From time to time this has cropped up, for various reasons, in various browsers, with various extensions - or none at all in PM 28.)

Bump, FF62, noscript-10.1.9.6rc3.xpi.

Edit:

62.0.2 said, "Properly restore window size and position when restarting on Windows", & with that I thought, "maybe a chance"?
Alas, no.

Just put in Palemoon 28.2.2 (Portable) & followed the steps here, https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=19550.
Still broken.

Classic... (in SeaMonkey) I had been seeing (I believe, if I recall) an issue there too, https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 10&t=23319, but since I've been hacking the NoScript 5.1 .xpi, it is not an issue. (I have no idea about Classic & FF < Quantum.)

FF Quantum (64) looks to be inherently broken - thought it may be very difficult to duplicate the issue.

FF Quantum + NoScript 10 is instantly broken (well, on the next browser restart).

I spoke poorly. My NS toolbar icons are stable. I don't use them on the taskbar.

Firefox 65 with fresh profile and Noscript 10.2.2rc2 from noscript.net. Everything default, just changed the setting of Firefox to restore the session. With noscript.net and the welcome page of Firefox loaded, everything looks as expected after closing Firefox and opening it again. Both pages are loaded and NoScript looks fine as well.

Test, if you would, with 4 (or more) Windows.
Note the relative location of each window during each opening of FF (so open, quit, open, quit ...).
Then install NoScript.
Note the relative location of each window during each opening of FF (so open, quit, open, quit ...).

Sorry, how could I be that stupid. I looked at the toolbar of NoScript instead of the taskbar of Windows.

I have tried it with a fresh profile now and did everything as described.

(1) without NoScript: I opened four windows with four different pages alphabetically sorted. Then I closed Firefox (File menu) and opened it again. The windows were in a different order.

(2) with NoScript: same as (1).

But I also noticed something strange: after being done with (1) and (2) I closed the windows one after the other. When I started Firefox again, three windows were restored in both cases. That was a surprise to me. This happened with and without NoScript.

Yep.
Been that way at least since 64.
(Don't recall when it actually hit, but it was certainly before 65. When I first saw it, & that would have been at the particular release time, I looked but didn't see a Bug filed. And I haven't seen it mentioned - at all, in Mozillazine, but it certainly is a bug.)

Yep.
That did come with 64, https://mozilla.logbot.info/firefox/20181211#c15707695.

A NOT bump, FF66, noscript-10.2.3rc3.xpi.

No need to worry about this any longer, as FF 66 alone is fubared enough as it is.

Persists too. Sad.

This usually happens when you close the browser right after you close the windows. I would try to give Firefox some time to update recovery.jsonlz4 and close the browser after that. ~20 seconds should be enough.
