Uninstalled NoScript. Automatically re-installs.
Uninstalled NoScript. Automatically re-installs.
I am using Firefox 3.5.2 on Windows Vista Home Basic. I installed NoScript 1.9.8.4. Too much learning time/settings for me to deal with right now. I used Tools> Add-Ons>NoScript Uninstall
it says NoScript will be uninstalled when Firefox restarts. Restarted Firefox and immediately add-ons box opens and announces 1 new add-on has been installed, NoScript! No matter how many times I uninstall/disable NoScript it reinstalls everytime Firefox is restarted, even in safe mode. How can I get NoScript to uninstall and stay that way? annoyed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it, but no help, does exact same thing.

Repeat previous instructions, but this time do the following too:freebirdwil wrote:Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it, but no help, does exact same thing.
- Delete compatibility.ini
- look inside the extensions folder for something like "staged xpis". I think it's a folder. If found, delete it.
- Also look inside the extensions folder for a folder named {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}. That's the NoScript installation. Delete it.
Report back here what you discovered, what you deleted, and the results.

Re: Uninstalled NoScript. Automatically re-installs.
Found them all. Deleted them all. Restarted firefox. ADD-Ons box does not appear but NOScript still installed. Re did tool>add-ons>Noscrpt. uninstall, restarted firefox add-on box jumps up stating installed 1 new add-on (NoScript). Thought maybe the order of ops was the proplem. Do I uninstall NoSCript then exit firefox and delete those files then restart or do I exit firefox, delete the files then uninstall NoScript, Tried both orders. NoScript is still there either way, but I believe you are on the right track as the two files deleted from Extensions folder have not returned.

Re: Uninstalled NoScript. Automatically re-installs.
I'm out of new ideas for fixing the problem. One more try though:
- Close Firefox
- Delete extensions.ini, extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, and compatibility.ini from the profile folder
- Look in the extensions folder. Are either the {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232} or staged-xpis folders there? Let me know whether they are. Delete them if they're there.
- Start Firefox
This removes all remnants of NoScript. If it doesn't, then I would guess you may be editing the wrong profile folder. Let me know.

Re: Uninstalled NoScript. Automatically re-installs.
Thanks for the late night help. I'm going blind. Been srtaring at screen since 8:30 AM (now 2:30AM), got to get some sleep. Will check back tommorrow. Really appreciate the help. Maybe some changes needed in about:config "noscript" filter area? Thinking of deleting all those files again and uninstalling Firefox and then reinstalling it to see if it picks up the abcense of the extentions files and installs sans NoScript. Will check for any new postings first tommorrow. Thanks and good night. Freebirdwil

I think that's OK. It may be recreated the next time you click the Find Updates button in the Add-ons manager.freebirdwil wrote:compatibility.ini is not recreated either.

ok. exited firefox. deleted all the files (noting that: combatibility.ini and the extensions file folder 2 files have never been recreated). restared firefox. NoScript still there. may be wrong profile. I am deleting from my user file>AppData>Roaming>Mozilla>Firefox and Extensions folders.

Good idea. I'm going to turn in too.freebirdwil wrote:got to get some sleep.
None of the NoScript settings left behind in about:config do anything if NoScript is not installed. Don't bother messing with them. Uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it probably won't fix anything either. The problem likely lies in your profile somewhere. If the deletions I suggested in my recent post don't fix the problem, I suggest creating a new profile, migrating any important data from the old one, and reinstalling your extensions.

Thanks. Sounds like a project for another day. Bookmarked the link for profile recreation. Took a peek inside extensions.rdf and see the NoScript data, thought of editing it out as a possibility but perhaps in the long run recreating profile may be a better route. have a good sleep and thanks for your noble efforts.

And you are running FF352?
Is there the possibility that NoScript is installed Globally (other then in your Profile) too?

Re: Uninstalled NoScript. Automatically re-installs.
According to http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Pro ... dows_Vista, your original Firefox profile should be located at %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default. I don't like the looks of the word "Roaming" in yours. I'm on Windows XP and don't have access to a Vista installation, so please bear with me. Let's verify what the "%APPDATA%" path is on your machine. Enter %APPDATA% in a Run dialog. On XP you can get a Run dialog with the Windows+R key combo, where "Windows" is the Windows key on the keyboard. On XP that brings up Windows Explorer on whatever the %APPDATA% folder is. Its address should be in the Address bar at the top of the Explorer window. What does it say?freebirdwil wrote:I am deleting from my user file>AppData>Roaming>Mozilla>Firefox and Extensions folders.
