(S) v10: "a privileged page" - clearly show what that means?

Post by fenix »

Hello.

There is one thing about NoScript v10, that I thought about for a long time. It's "This is a privileged page, whose permissions cannot be configured." information found on so-called "privileged pages" (vide addons.mozilla.org and many others). For example, on such web pages various addons cannot work and operate correctly. However, there is a way to avoid such a limitation, but this is not a good place.

So, as We know when User is on a "privileged page" and click NoScript icon, there is "This is a privileged page, whose permissions cannot be configured." information only right? But oftentimes, mostly unexperienced Users, have no idea what it really means. Those who want to check this - let say, more experienced - probably will search for some informations etc.

Now, this information looks this way: there is only a brief comment about web page status. Just a dry text: "! This is a privileged page, whose permissions cannot be configured". Nothing more, nothing less.

I would like to suggest a simple solution. Maybe there can be added a button, that will open an external web page where Users will be able to read some informations etc.? Here is an example:

Code: Select all

,------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

! This is a privileged page, whose permissions cannot be configured.

		                                 [ Check why ]

`------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------'

Figure 1.
However, if opening an external web page would be undesirable, then '[ Check why ]' button can be replaced with - for example - '[ More informations ]' and this button could open a small window with a short description, explanation etc.?

Code: Select all

,------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

! This is a privileged page, whose permissions cannot be configured.

		                             [ More informations ]
                              ,--------^---------------------------------------------------.
| | Privileged Pages are the web pages...? | |
		                      `-------------------------------------------------------------'
`------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------'

Figure 2.
So, what do You think? Is this a good idea to add such button? If yes, then there are the ability to: 1/ use 'Check why' button to open an external web page (see Figure 1); 2/ use 'More informations' button to display a small popup window with correct description etc. (see Figure 2).

In my personal opinion, I think, that "a privileged page" should be explained to Users via NoScript popup window (see above ideas, for example).

Thanks, best regards.

Hello Mr Maone.

Thank You. Anyway, there is one more thing I would like to bring your/our attention to. I would, however, like to draw attention to "This is a privileged page, whose permissions cannot be configured" information. In my personal opinion, this is unfortunate and I think, that it should/could be written - for example - this way: "This is a privileged page and permissions cannot be configured". As We can see, "whose" had been changed with "and". Here are two more examples and ideas:

✓ "This site is a part of the "privileged pages", whose permissions cannot be configured."
✓ "This site belongs to the "privileged pages", whose permissions cannot be configured."
✓ "This site belongs to the "privileged pages" and permissions cannot be configured."

These are just ideas. Of course, there also should be '[Check why]' or '[More informations]' button (to gather more informations about what "privileged pages" are etc.)

By the way: what do You think about changing "configured" to - for example - "changed"? Then, there could be something like (please note, that "and/whose" can be used):

✓ "This site belongs to the "privileged pages" and/whose permissions cannot be changed."

Thanks, best regards.
