[Fixed] What in NS is blocking this video from playing?

Post by lakrsrool »

Regarding this URL: https://www.cbssports.com/general/news/ ... a-results/.

What in NS is blocking this video from playing if I have allowed all script requests (allow all this page) for this webpage?

I know NS is causing the video to not play because if I disable the NS add-on the video plays every time.

So there must be some setting in NS that is causing this since there is no issue with NS disabled.

I got the video playing after allowing these domains and privileges (in CUSTOM settings).

Code: Select all

cbssports.com script,frame
cbssportspmd-a.akamaihd.net fetch
sports.cbsimage.net script
vidtech.cbsinteractive.com script
imasdk.googleapis.com script
Does that work for you or do you still get some error message?

lakrsrool,, by allowing the scripts as posted by skriptimaahinen you ll be able to play about 90% of all videos at cbssports-com. I visit the site every day. Right now there is no issue between NoScript and the site.

Using v5.1.8.5.

In addition to the rules posted by skriptimaahinen, I had to allow scripts from s0.2mdn.net.
When that wasn't allowed, the screen was black.

Sorry, correction: Had to additionally allow scripts from sportsfly.cbsistatic.com and s0.2mdn.net.

Same issue here. I think this is a bug in NoScript Classic.

I've been using "Temporarily allow all this page" -- so in regards to all other posts since I observe all requests are "allowed" there has been nothing more to "allow" and the video has still never worked.

Using the modified pref in your PM barbaz --- the video does work.

Note: I left the page as before "Temporarily allow all this page" (which as I said has never worked before) and the video DID WORK - yea! Also I noticed that when this pref change was made "double-click" was added to the requests which I did not allow however.

I then only allowed what you had included in your PM:
+cbssports.com
+blob:
+google.com
+akamaihd.net
+imasdk.googleapis.com
+cbsimg.net
+cbsistatic.com
+cbsinteractive.com

And the video still worked -- so with these requests "allowed" and the pref change you sent me the video DOES now WORK!

Thanks

So is this a "bug" in NS Classic?

As you know Pale Moon has made NS a level 1 blacklisted add-on per Moonchild -- the reasons are that NS causes too many issues with Pale Moon. On that note this specific issue can certainly be used to support this position. There are some who have vehemently defended NS -- but that said -- one might ask if this is a "bug" well then how many other "bugs" might there be more specifically in regards to compatibility with Pale Moon?

Any opinions on the above comments -- I'm very interested as a Pale Moon user that also uses NS Classic....

When I tested, I had no issues.
Pale Moon 27.9.1 (it must have been).
NoScript 5.x (but then it might have been 2.x)?

If I'm recalling, I simply Allowed Globally - to see if it worked, & it did, so I left it at that.

NS causes too many issues with Pale Moon. On that note this specific issue can certainly be used to support this position
Wrong, IMO.

Create a new Profile
Install NoScript 5.x (latest)
Allow Scripts Globally
Visit cbssports

Does your video play?

What was this secret Pref that you changed?
how many other "bugs" might there be more specifically in regards to compatibility with Pale Moon
Don't know. How is one to know? Don't even know if this is a PM/NS "bug". Don't even know if there are (in general) PM/NS bugs.
Do other browsers & NS 5.x have the same issue? Are they fixed by setting they same Pref?

The blacklisting of NS (level 1 -- so users are at this time able to override) has created quite an uproar...

Here is the only open topic on the subject (as all other topics have been shutdown on the forum): Want to talk about NoScript? Post here. -- it would appear that the Pale Moon staff disagree vehemently that there are not any issues with NS in regards to browser compatibility....

Here is the initial official Pale Moon announcement (prior to when the add-on was later added to the blacklist): Important: NoScript users and our support that was eventually locked due to expressed outrage by users....

@lakrsrool Thanks for confirming the fix. Will pass along to Giorgio.

Yes

This isn't a Pale Moon specific issue. I wasn't using Pale Moon when checking this.

Regarding Pale Moon soft-blocking NoScript, please take further discussion of that to https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 909#p96909, thanks.

For any interested readers, I tried also with Firefox 52.8.0esr - the same issue is present there.

Thank you!

I'm grateful that you checked/verified that there is an issue, and that there will be an effort to fix it. XD

Correct.
New Profile
Add NoScript
Restart a time or two, verify that NoScript is actually there & is working

> Pale Moon 27.9.1 (it must have been).
Yes.

5.x.

> If I'm recalling, I simply Allowed Globally - to see if it worked, & it did, so I left it at that.
True.
Win7 x64.
Load cbssports
Preakness video clip, 1:17, plays as expected

Not seeing an issue here.
Not with PM, not with NoScript.

I just tested Palemoon 27.9.2 with NoScript Classic at cbssports.com. I cant find nothing wrong. The only difference I found in what I needed to allow using NoScript Classic and PM instead of Firefox 60.0.1 and NoScript 10.1.8.2rc2 is that with PM I need to allow 2mdn.net in order for akamaihd.net (required for the video to play) to cascade. With Firefox 57 and later, we don't have to allow 2mdn.net. If I was using Palemoon with NoScript, this is how I would set things up at cbssports.

2mdn.net has a surrogate.

If I understand correctly, you shouldn't need to allow a domain that has a surrogate.
