FF 57.02 64 bit and NoScripts don't get along

Post by bmail »

I am trying to use NS 10.1.6 with FireFox 57.02 64 bit but it keeps causing FF to hang when you click on the FF icon. The FF page starts to load then stops. You can see an "?" mark on the NS icon and there is nothing you can do but close and then reopen FF. Usually, when you reopen FF it loads just fine on the second try.
NS also appears to prevent FF from unloading properly when I exit FF.
When I disable NS, FireFox loads and closes just fine.
What's the problem here?
I've used NS for years without any problems until this upgrade to work with the new version of FF.

Maybe a corrupted profile, or a conflict with another addon. Test using a new Firefox profile, and install NoScript first after creating the new pofile.

Turns out it is a conflict between NoScripts and Adblock. If I turn off NoScripts...then everything works well. Likewise, if I leave NoScripts enabled and turn off AdBlock things work well also.
Any fix between these two apps in the works?

This may not be an option for you, but NoScript 10.x works fine with uBlock Origin in FF 57.0.2 on Windows 7 and 10. I switched from ABP to uBO, because of the decision by ABP to allow certain ads by default. Also, the rule syntax for uBO is a superset of the rule syntax for ABP, so your existing custom ABP rules will continue to work with uBO.

Hi bmail. You shouldn't be experiencing a conflict between NoScript and ABP. Both addons should get along perfectly well for you. I am not using ABP now but I tested it yesterday after reading your post, all worked out perfectly well. Beside that, I used both addons together for years, never an issue. Also, during the first few days I had Firefox 57 and NoScript 10 (I updated both on the same day), I also installed ABP as I wanted to test it to see how it was working with Firefox 57. The experience was just fine.

So, you dont need to install UBO or anything else to replace ABP. Personally, I stopped using an adblocker a while ago as you can block most ads with NoScript. In other words, to me personally, using an adblocker is redundant when you are using NoScript.

Like I wrote earlier, I think you should test using a new Firefox profile. Perhaps, using a new one fixes your issue. It should.
