Custom Options Explained

Post by Wfoxie »

I’m using NoScript for few months now, thank you so much for the Add-On, it makes my browsing less annoying and faster.

Forgive me my ignorance. I'm trying to find an information about the Custom Options as I am not sure what option means what. How do I know what to block and not in the new NS 10 version?
Someone please explain; or post link to a good source of plain English explanation of SCRIPT OBJECT MEDIA FRAME FONT WEBGL FETCH OTHER
Thank you

I'm not familiar with NoScript's internals, but here's my current understanding...
Each of these checkboxes seems to either allow or block a specific type of item from that domain. There are different risks associated with each type of item.

If you check SCRIPT, then the site you're on will be allowed to load & run javascript (and potentially other types of scripts) from that domain.
OBJECT allows HTML Object elements (see https://www.w3schools.com/TAGs/tag_object.asp) Flash is probably the most common instance of these
MEDIA: allows video & audio elements
FRAMES: http://www.simplehtmlguide.com/frames.php
FONTS: allows loading of typefaces
WEBGL: allows 3D graphics and other advanced drawing/animation code to run, but also opens you up to a different form of tracking
FETCH: probably allows the site to dynamically load items in response to events like mouse movements/clicks & stuff (AJAX)
OTHER: anything else?

Making an educated decision about which of these to allow from which domains would require more technical knowledge than I can deliver.

Locking in favor of https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 552#p93552 at OP's request.
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!
