[Unrelated] Video only works with NoScript disabled

Post by lakrsrool »

Using NoScript v5.0.6 in Pale Moon and "Temporarily allowing all permissions" the webpage video still does not play.

The only way to get the video to play is to disable the NoScript extension.

thanks in advance for any help.

Works for me with these NoScript permissions -

Code: Select all

+fncstatic.com
+foxnewsplayer-a.akamaihd.net
+foxnews-f.akamaihd.net
+blob:
+foxnews.com
It's just very slow to load.

I thought I understood NoScript.

Where are those permissions you've posted above?

I don't have them.

I have allowed ALL permissions:
Image
And I get a black video that does not play.

But if I disable the NoScript add-on then the video plays. (which would tell us that NoScript is causing the problem if disabling the add-on fixes the problem)

Can you elaborate on where these permissions are?

I get the impression what I am talking about is not what you are talking about....

As you can see I've allowed a very long list of requests (all of them for this website) but no luck playing video.

You've allowed everything that's needed and way more.

Do you have NoScript Options > Embeddings, "Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites too" checked?

Does this video work for you? - http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/11/09/t ... -companies

No that option is unchecked.

Yes that video works for me.

ADDENDUM: The video that does not work loads with the picture visible and then reloads with a black video that will not play if that helps (and has not problem with NoScript disabled as I've said which loads and plays without the second reload of the page).

Please create a clean profile from scratch. Install only NoScript latest development build, leaving all the defaults.
Does the problem still exist?
If not, what if you then import your NS settings into the clean profile using the Import and Export buttons *on the very bottom* of NS Options?
If that still doesn't reproduce the problem, NoScript is not the culprit... try Standard Diagnostic (leaving NS enabled) to isolate and correct the real cause.

Let us know, thanks.

Okay in a fresh PM Profile I did the following:

Install the current NS release (as suggested).

After allowing as many as 4 iterations of permissions to requests in NoScript I was able to get the video to work with the current NS release.

So I'm thinking that this same thing would be the case if I revert back to the current 5.0.6 that Pale Moon recognizes as the most recent NS for the Pale Moon browser.
See url: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/noscript/ for what I'm talking about (as illustrated in screen-shot below): Image
And yes, as I thought NS 5.0.6 gives the same result; the video works as well after multiple iterations of permissions to requests by NoScript are done.

So in the knowledge that my version of NS (5.0.6) works in a fresh profile I returned to testing my default profile.

I ultimately (after extensive testing) found that I do not have to allow any more NoScript permissions that I already have allowed so NoScript was after all not the problem, but instead there were two factors involving other extensions that needed to be changed.

These two things needed to be done to get the video to work:
1) Disable Disconnect from blocking Google.
2) Add foxnews.com to uBo's whitelist (i.e. disable uBo for foxnews.com).

These two things were all I needed to do to get the video to play and if either are NOT done then the Video fails to play.

I was using logical deduction that if I disable NoScript the video plays that the problem would necessarily have to be with NoScript.

Obviously deductive logic does not apply when it comes to add-ons.
;)

ADDENDUM: Issues with more current NS builds have been reported, one example: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.ph ... pt#p125362 other reports that there are no problems with the current build aside.

Thanks for reporting back.

Yeah I too had to disable uBlock Origin in my main profile to get that video to play. Let me see if we can find a better answer than that.

Looks like this was already reported two months ago with a fix included - https://forums.lanik.us/viewtopic.php?p=125015#p125015

^ Hmm, I use EasyList and it is current so perhaps it wasn't fixed? :?

Yeah, you need to add the fix manually to "My filters" for now.

Added the following to myfilters:

Code: Select all

||cdn.krxd.net^$script,redirect=noopjs,domain=video.foxnews.com
@@||global.fncstatic.com/$script,domain=video.foxnews.com
and I get a black video which does not play. Going back to using the whitelist and it plays.

Am I missing something?

Looks like in Pale Moon you need to change the second filter to

Code: Select all

@@||global.fncstatic.com/$script,domain=foxnews.com
