Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
Also got this bug. The workaround in the first post worked for me.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
Thank you for posting the fix in red in the first post: Quote: "Firefox menu > Help (?) > Restart with Add-ons disabled
Click the [Continue in Safe Mode] button
Restart the browser again normally: NoScript UI should be back now"
I went into a complete, total comprehensive life panic when I woke up and fired up my favorite browser, and my favorite add-on icon was shockingly absent.
My nerves became so freaked out that I could not even figure out what version of NoScript I have installed. The first thing I did was check for updates, no updates found. The second thing I did was google search, no relevant results found. The third thing I did was log onto this forum, and then check View Active Topics.
Thank you for this add on, it keeps me from feeling naked when I surf with Firefox.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
Had this problem on win7-64 and win10-64. I just use Video downloadhelper and noScript on both.
Performing the restart with add-on's disabled, and restarting again, fixed the problem so far.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
Installing old version of NS without uninstalling 5.1.2 fixed it! Then installed 5.1.2 still fixed, even with multiple restarts of FF!
Thanks for the most essential browser add-on ever! Figuring out why some work arounds didn't work for some but did for others, over so many different platform versions and configurations will be tricky. Kudos to Giorgio for jumping right on it as soon as he heard about it. Hope you figure it so there won't be a need for work arounds. I sure you do too!

Thanks for the fix
It worked for me.
I will cross my fingers that You will be able to fix it in code. I know that "unable to reproduce" bugs are the most annoying ones.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
Was waiting till I fixed my Win7 box, to update NS to 5.1.2 on my Win 10 32bit machine. Same issue, same fix. Install old version of NS without first uninstalling, then install 5.1.2 again. Survives restart of FF! Thanks to barbaz for the links to the older versions!
On both machines the only other add-ons are HTTPS-Everywhere, and Personas Plus.
Hopefully more data points helps find the fix for the code.

UPDATE WITH A FIXThanks and sorry for the inconvenience, we're trying to figure out what exactly is happening and how to make sure it doesn't happen again.
- Firefox menu > Help (?) > Restart with Add-ons disabled
- Click the [Continue in Safe Mode] button
- Restart the browser again normally: NoScript UI should be back now
- Please report here the list of your add-ons as shown in about:support
Furthermore, if you're extra adventurous, please install 5.1.2rc8 from https://noscript.net/getit#devel, then restart the browser, then install 5.1.2 (stable) over it to provide us with some indication on what to expect on next update.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
One thing I just thought to add is that recently (last ~week?), the No Script button got moved to the right in my group of Add On buttons (on address/search bar).
I think that might have been after a (FF?) update and it freaked me out in the moment. First time it had happened. It has been annoying that it is several buttons over from where I expect it to be!
Not sure if this could be relevant to the disappearing issue.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
I'm using Firefox 54 under Ubuntu 14.04. The NoScript icon disappeared for me after the upgrade. After seeing some of this discussion, I went into the extension manager and told it to remove NoScript. I then closed the browser and reinstalled NoScript from the Mozilla "add-ons" pages. The icon is back, and all my settings were saved, e.g. my whitelist is intact.

Re: [FIX] Fx 56 - NoScript icon disappeared on 5.1.2 update
Hi, I got the problem too.
My setup:
- Windows 10 Pro x64
- Firefox 56.0.1, automatically updated from x86 to x64, so FF is still on "Program Files (x86)" folder
- Extensions only "NoScript" and "Video DownloadHelper".
I sorted the problem by myself before reading this thread as following:
- Export the whitelist (it's the thing I care most)
- Removing NoScript
- Restart firefox
- Re-install NoScript
- Importing the whitelist.
It works, and I didn't even lose the settings.
