5.1 Restartless Update Holds .xpi Open

5.1 Restartless Update Holds .xpi Open

Image

Typically, I download .xpi, move .xpi into my XPI directory, then install.

Today, download, install, then went to move.
The move "errored".
Then I look & I see the .xpi is in my XPI directory.
But it is also in my download directory.
(So it did the copy part [different drives], but not the "move" [delete] part.)

Checked, OpenedFilesView, but that did not see it.

Process Hacker did.

I was able to rename the file (first from noscript-5.1.2rc3.xpi to noscript-5.1.2rc3.xpi.xxx, then to noscript-5.1.2rc3.xpi.xxx,y), but not delete it - until I had first closed SeaMonkey.

Likewise, until I restarted SeaMonkey, I was unable to upload my screenshots as the upload button ("Choose images") was ineffectual.

I didn't check to see if {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}.xpi was (also) listed in there, but suspecting it had to be? Also seems there is not a straight forward set of circumstances where this manifests; as in, new Profile install & check probably won't cause the issue.

Does this happen with other restartless extensions?
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

Also seems there is not a straight forward set of circumstances where this manifests; as in, new Profile install & check probably won't cause the issue.
So I tried to duplicate the issue, but was unsuccessful.

As it was... had, oh, not sure 5.1.2rc1 installed, not sure.
I knew there was a newer update.
Opened browser, downloaded 5.1.2rc3.
Installed.
Noticed the issues.
Went looking.

Later tried to recreate with a new Profile.
Then threw in FlashGot (legacy) & then various versions of NoScript, but couldn't duplicate.

Various mozillazine threads at least hint that simply disabling all extensions, then re-enabling sometimes corrects various (extension related) issues, so who knows, could be something like that. Particular Profile happened to present the issue, where a new Profile, or various extension install, in different order, or types (restartless or not) or who know what combinations... might or might not.

(I'll probably run into this again, tomorrow ;-).)

5.1.2rc7
Win7 x64
SeaMonkey 2.49.1 x64

Since you asked:

Likewise, until I restarted SeaMonkey, I was unable to upload my screenshots as the upload button ("Choose images") was ineffectual.
And it dawned on my how to work around that too...

Allow Globally AND refresh the page.
With that, the "chooser" worked.

Code: Select all

C:\WLIB\LeechFTP\LeechTMP\noscript-5.1.2rc8.xpi.WELL.BLOW.ME.AWAY.LOCED.AGAIN! DRATS!
Where would you be without a sense of humor :|.

Oh, no big deal, but meant to mention, existing window/tab NoScript icon, About (NoScript X.x.xrcX...) won't show the correct NoScript version until a restart, page refresh, new window/tab... kind of thing.

Likewise, until I restarted SeaMonkey, I was unable to upload my screenshots as the upload button ("Choose images") was ineffectual.
With 5.1.2rc8, with a very simple, single test, the "chooser" here, http://postimages.org/, worked - without having to restart the browser or anything like that.

Well that was then (& XP) & now is now (& Win7), & with (the restartless install of 5.1.2rc8), "Choose images" once again fails.

(And once again, Allow Globally, followed by a manual page refresh [no additional domains show up by doing so], & the Chooser works. Forbid Globally, & it still works. But then manually refresh after that, & it again no longer works.)

I start to suspect it's somehow related to https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 8&start=30 :(
Now if only it was reliably reproducible and fixable...
