[SOLVED] Is NoScript spying on me?

Post by iDrugoy »

Attempted to allow (or temporarily allow) firefox.com and got this:

What does firefox.com have to do with noscript.net? I didn't opt in for any tracking of my actions in noscript's settings.
Should I firewall noscript.net?

No it is not spying on you, the most ridiculous thing I have heard. Have you ever read the documentation?

WebExtensions which were forced upon everyone by Mozilla behave slightly differently, so there is that.
Another the ping against the db to check reputation, which I am not sure if he ported over or not yet.
Another likely is that ABE is checking WAN IP to ensure you are protected against LOCAL attacks.
Less likely but still common among those who don't know what they are doing, is that you are using HOST files that are causing it, read this.

Anything else, let us know - without more than just the screenshot, not much we can tell you about what you were doing and how you got there.

NoScript is not spying on you. That's the "Site Info" feature. You must have middle-clicked or shift-clicked the menu item by mistake.

If you still want to dash around like a man with his hair on fire and firewall noscript.net, feel free.

And the most ridiculous thing I've heard is Maone praising WebExtensions on mozilla blog.

No, I have not. Since when do extensions have documentation other than the text on their AMO page or in addon settings in AOM?

There is what exactly? Do WebExtensions force to spy on users?

What ping? I don't want extensions I use to ping their servers.

Not my case.

That's my case, thanks. So it's yet another stupid feature that users don't know about.
