1.9.7 installation bug: noscript is disabled

Post by Alex »

Since I updated noscript to 1.9.7, noscript is disabled.
In tools -> add-ons, at noscript, it says: "this add-on will be installed when Firefox is restarted.". But I have tried restarting firefox, and even rebooting, but it stays the same.

Firefox 3.0.11
Ubuntu 8.04

Thanks for any help!

that looks like an Add-Ons Manager corruption.

Could you try to follow the steps outlined in this article?

Ouch.

I did that, but now all the add on configurations seems to be gone. THe problem is that I have an extension hiding the menus (and showing an all inclusive menu). So now I dont have firefox menus anymore...

How do I access the add-on manager without navigating the tool menu? (that way I can reconfigure the add ons).

Actually, I restored the three ectension.* files, but since I tried customize -> back to default on the navigation bar before (to try and fix the problem without resoring), I now have my previous add-ons configuration (including no noscript), and no menus...

unforseen consequences indeed.

Reopen Firefox in -safe-mode and disable the extension which is hiding the menus.

well, it seems that the problem comes from the "menu editor" extension; even after disabling it or uninstalling it from safe mode, it doesn't give me my menus back...

unless there is a way to directly open the addon prefrence menu, it will probably be easyer to reinstall firefox from scratch than muck with the configaration by hand.

Anyways, thanks a lot for your quick answers!

Reinstalling probably won't do any good. Create a new profile instead.

Just adding as I've had the same problem.

I don't have a menu edit extension.

I've even deleted my old profile, installed latest version of FF and installed each extension 1 by 1 - NoScript is the only one with this behaviour (so far!)

TIA

@James Acton:
Have you got Site Advisor or the .NET Framework Assistant?
Could you try disabling all the other extensions?

No to either.

I was going to do a clean install and then install NoScript first but I've done a work around! All I did was unzip the .xpi file into its folder and it seems to be working :D
Don't know why I didn't think of it earlier

Seems to be working.
