cookie from secure.informaction.com?

Hello,

How come each time I open FF, there is a cookie coming from secure.informaction.com on my pc? (regardless of visited website(s)).
What makes me wonder even more, is why on one PC this happens and on the other it doesn't. Both with FF and NS.

NoScript does make a request to secure.informaction.com for looking up your WAN IP. It shouldn't result in cookies though, should it?

As for why it happens on one PC but not the other, do both PCs have selected NoScript Options > Advanced > ABE, WAN IP ∈ LOCAL ?

Also, do you have cookies from secure.informaction.com from some other visit to that site?

NS settings under options advanced are the same on both pc's, the box you mentioned is ticked.
No cookies from previous visits, in fact never visited the informaction website with that pc, it's been recently fresh installed.
Just opening FF is enough to receive the cookie. I always clear all cookies on closing FF, and then use Ccleaner. So no chance
it's there from a previous session. In the details in Ccleaner I found it as removed FF cookie each time,
even with no sites visited. (Along with a cookie from self-repair.mozilla.org, also appearing each time).
On the other PC no such things.

Do be careful with CCleaner, it's known to be overzealous around Firefox profiles.

I'd bet CCleaner is actually finding and removing the cache entry for the IP check URL.

Thank you for looking in to it with me. I still can't explain why Ccleaner finds the removed cookie (the two removed cookies) on one PC each time, and never on the other one.
I use it in the same way, after (removing cookies on) closing FF each time, and never seen it on the other one.
As you said, with the ABE Ping thing in advanced settings, one wouldn't expect a cookie...

In Firefox, are you clearing the cache on one machine but not the other?

Do you have different Firefox cache settings on the two machines?

I'd need to look into that. Can't right away think of where to find the settings, didn't find them were I thought they are.
It'll probably be by tomorrow when I've found that out, compared them and can let you know whether it was that.

I looked it up, in which setting that's done and yes on both PC's FF is set to clear cookies as well as cache on closing it.
So no difference there either..

Does CCleaner give the full file paths to what it cleans? If so, please post here the full file path it reports for this "cookie".

Note that visiting https://secure.informaction.com/ipecho/ doesn't set a cookie for me.

Thank you for testing.
It seems to be an "invisible" process. It is listed as a "removed cookie" after closing FF, along with the other one I mentioned.

I've been doing some testing with cookie settings on this PC (the one where it doesn't appear), but can't reproduce it here. (The cookie doesn't appear on this pc).
Instead changing some cookie settings at one point resulted in FF not working properly anymore, which couldn't be undone by changing the
settings back. So my old FF profile has gone.. Didn't do any testing yet on the other PC, which I don't like to mess up.

When I've found some more clues, and found the answer to Barbaz's question I'll report back. Meanwhile .. should anyone know what it's about with this cookie, I'd be pleased to know.
