Gmail won't load with Preview Pane Lab and NoScript 2.9.5.2

Post by NMS »

Since the update to 2.9.5.2, if the Gmail Labs option Preview Pane is enabled, mail.google.com won't load. It shows the empty progress bar, the simple HTML version link, and a bit of text, but not much else, and never makes any more progress. I have google.com whitelisted and scripts enabled globally. I'm running Firefox 50.0.2. I tried disabling other features of NoScript, but it didn't help. Disabling NoScript, disabling Preview Pane, and reverting to version 2.9.5.1 all fixed the issue. I'm planning to stick with the older version until this is resolved.

2.9.5.2rc2 works, rc3 does not.

Preview Pane
How do you enable "preview pane"? Do you need "Gmail Labs" to do so?

(Wonder if this is same as the Keepa bug? Sure sounds similar. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=22357)

On mail.google.com, click the gear menu and select settings, then click on the Labs tab. There's a list of features which can be enabled, including Preview Pane. Go to https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0 to load with labs features disabled.

Broke on the same version, probably involves iFrames, seems likely.

Thanks for looking into this.

Since I saw that the Keepa bug was fixed in 2.9.5.3, I tried upgrading. Not only did Gmail with preview pane not work in that version, it continued not working after I reverted to 2.9.5.3rc2. Reverting to 2.9.5.1 works. (I'm now running Firefox 50.1.0)

NMS, I'm not seeing that issue here with NoScript 2.9.5.3rc6. In case I'm missing something, I'll outline what I did.

Logged in to Gmail. Settings > Labs, searched for "Preview". Found "Preview Pane", selected "Enable" for that lab, hit "Save Changes".

I then moved an email into my Gmail inbox. In the new drop-down, selected "Vertical Split". Then clicked the message. And it displayed on the right, which IIUC is what's supposed to happen.
