I do not like site by site blocking of things, because I the sites I like & need to permit to do some things are also trying to autoplay videos and replace images in a visually distracting way. I want to permit the things I need (clicking ALL on the right side of the section listing on nytimes.com header so I can access sections not listed across the top) without allowing all this page (because I don't want videos to play and images to be replaced etc). I am not sure how it works but I have better results with the 'blocked objects' submenu under the S symbol at the left of my FF window than I do with allowing site by site.
But: sometimes I do not see blocked objects option on that dropdown menu at all; and sometimes it appears, but after I select one item, it disappears and I can't ever get it to appear again for that page.
What is with this behavior of sometimes appearing, then disappearing, and sometimes not appearing at all?
How to force blocked objects dialog to reappear?

Re: How to force blocked objects dialog to reappear?
The Blocked Objects submenu doesn't provide options to forbid things (or permanently allow them); once you've allowed an object, it won't appear on the menu any more.
If you revoke the temporary permissions, it should come back.
