Palemoon and ABE
Palemoon and ABE
I was testing rules. I didn't know there was a difference between Palemoon and Firefox. So I used Palemoon for testing and ABE didn't work. So I tested the following rule - top USER rule.
# User-defined rules. Feel free to experiment here.
Site ALL
Deny
Expected behavior - all sites blocked. Worked in Firefox, but all sites allowed in Palemoon. The Palemoon console log showed occasional instances of the ABE rule, but not in all cases. But in all cases, there was no blocking.
I have the current version of Palemoon and NoScript. So, my question is this. Is there a prior version of NoScript that allows the ABE component to work? Seems the other components work. Or has the Palemoon development wandered too far from how Firefox does things for ABE to ever work.

Re: Palemoon and ABE
I forgot to mention the third possibility - that my particular profile is screwed up, and in fact ABE works for other users in Palemoon? The reason I didn't initially think of that is that other parts of NoScript work fine.

Re: Palemoon and ABE
Well, there is known to be something screwy with NoScript ABE & Pale Moon: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=21762
If you post here your Pale Moon version, I will test it and see if I get the behavior like you describe, but keep in mind the status of official NoScript support of Pale Moon viewtopic.php?f=8&t=21759

Re: Palemoon and ABE
I just tried it using a new profile, and the ABE component works. So, the issue is on my end. I tested it in Palemoon 26.3.3 32 bit and 64 bit under a different id, works.

Thanks for letting us know! If you find and solve the problem with your main Pale Moon profile, can you please post the details of the problem/solution?

Re: Palemoon and ABE
Well, a little more egg on my face. When I tested the ABE in a different profile, there was a NoScript already installed, and it was version 2.6.8.5. Abe worked, but I didn't think about the versions. So, I took my Palemoon version 26.3.3 (x64) which is the latest and installed Noscript 2.6.8.29.1-Signed and bada-boom, bada-bing, ABE works.
So I am back to square one, which is, using the latest Palemoon 26.3.3 (x64), and the latest NoScript 2.9.0.11 ABE silently fails. I created a brand spanking new profile, loaded NoScript 2.9.0.11 and only NoScript - ABE didn't work. So, now I can't confirm that the current version of NoScript, ABE component works in Palemoon.
Test Rule made the topmost rule under USER.

Re: Palemoon and ABE
OK I can confirm this with NoScript latest development build 2.9.0.12rc1, on Pale Moon 26.3.3
ABE doesn't seem to be having any effect at all, doesn't seem to matter how I specify the rule...
Nothing related in Browser Console.

Re: Palemoon and ABE
I'm playing around with the versions page.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... on-2.9.0.7
I get a warning if I tried to install a version higher than 2.9.0.4. And ABE works in that version and Palemoon.
So, that version might be the last where ABE is going to work in Palemoon.
The "check for updates" in Palemoon did allow installation without warning to version 2.9.0.11

Re: Palemoon and ABE
Don't give up on it at this point, the next thing to do is check the closest officially supported browser - which is latest Firefox 24 ESR - and see if this ABE issue happens there as well...NoScriptUser123 wrote:So, that version might be the last where ABE is going to work in Palemoon.

Re: Palemoon and ABE
I loaded Firefox ESR 24.7.0 from portable apps.
I went to the versions page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... on-2.9.0.7 and loaded Version 2.9.0.4, which was the newest version not to complain about not being compatible with Firefox 24. ABE worked. Then, I checked for updates, and NoScript updated to the newest version without warning and ABE was no longer working.
So, it does seem that 2.9.0.4 is the latest version for Palemoon, and the page with the different versions knows that, meaning it is by design, but the check for update doesn't know that. So, if people are updating their NoScript on Palemoon automatically, they are probably updating to an partly incompatible version. So far the only thing I see not working in the current version is ABE

Re: Palemoon and ABE
Giorgio will fix it but currently he's really busy designing WebExtensions API so only the most up-to-date browser versions are prioritised atm

I don't know if the new NoScript version (2.9.0.12) fix the problem or the new Pale Moon 27 (alpha) but ABE works again in Pale Moon!
