Tutorial???

Post by guitar-picker »

I've used computers since the early 1980s but am not a programmer, and I find NoScript pretty much baffling. Is there a user-friendly tutorial somewhere that explains the what and why of all the mind-numbing settings and options to combat the seemingly endless number of security issues that this ingenious application theoretically allows an average PC user to manage? Without the tutorial, opening and trying to understand NoScript's Options is hopeless..similar to when a newbie opens and starts randomly poking around inside Regedit. I'm very concerned about privacy and security, and applications like NoScript look like wonderful solutions, but privacy and security issues seem to be exploding like a supernova, far faster than even computer programming geniuses can keep up with.

speedupmypc.exe

"PC slowing
you down?
Free scan"
https://virustotal.com/it/file/8a50d482 ... 460753391/

Zeugma google-translated to English wrote:Hello Giorgio, hello even the legendary Barbaz.
Not knowing exactly where to do it (the forum and 'very large), I ask here, since the tutorial.
Of all subpages of https://noscript.net/ is the https://noscript.net/gh/dr/tkgzitjfe97DUSVgh?MT link advertised with the phrase (with an inviting green button):
"PC slowing
you down?
Free scan "
I refer to the link site http://www.uniblue.com/cm/deletedcmunit ... noscriptt1 where another Green Button aims to download the file speedupmypc.exe
I underwent Virustotal the link to this file (speedupmypc.exe should ensure a PC clean!) But it seems that it is a trojan.

Since the site from which you download this file and 'advertised on the site noscript, site that has a great reputation, the user feels safe and secure. Perhaps you should review the policy on advertising links that are hosted on the site?
Thanks for your answer.

No, it's not a trojan but a false positive due to some antivirus engines flagging optimization/cleanup programs as potential unwanted ones because they're often side-installed by other freeware programs in non-obvious way, and user discover having a software they didn't ask for when they're nagged because the trial period is expired. This is obviously not NoScript's case, because it doesn't install anything.
