can't get imdb.com flash-content to play unless i disable ns

Post by wtf1000 »

hi,
i've been wrecking my brain, and searched the internet for help, etc..

I can't get imdb.com flash-content ( e.g.: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi722666265/ ) to play, unless i disable noscript.
period.
i'd really appreciate a walkthrough for the settings necessary to make it work,
because it makes no sense to disable more and more settings
thus opening up a whole bunch of unnecessary holes in my browser-security,
and still not achieving what i want!

TIA
b.

You need to allow (sadly) all the following:
  1. imdb.com
  2. media-imdb.com
  3. doubleclick.net (!)
  4. amazon.com

Works for me without having to allow anything more than:

imdb.com
media-imdb.com

I just checked.

I think it varies actually. The domains needed may vary. I had to allow different ones then Giorgio posted.

 is right!

doubleclick.net was indeed forbidden, and allowing it solved the problem - who would've thought of that? :?
thanks for the quick reply, and for the great addon that noscript generally is!

i am have had similiar problem and allowin doubleclick solved it for me too.

would be fine if a future version of noscript could handle this, dont like it to allow the evil and hated doubleclick domain.

@Giorgio There is an addition obstacle here worth mentioning.

The initial url of the player iframe is http://i.imdb.com/b.gif, which is subsequently changed by a script. If you are blocking iframes, the initial iframe url is blocked and when activated, the script that changes the url, doesn't run and the player never loads.

This can be addressed by setting forbidIFramesContext to 3 so the iframe is never blocked (it being from the same 2nd level domain). I think forbidIFramesContext should be in the UI with 3 as the default. If it is hidden, even with 2 as the default, the "forbid iframes" setting is somewhat misleading.

I have the same problem. Allowing doubleclick.net solves the problem. I always allow this only temporarily for IMDb trailers. However, it would be nice if there was a solution. Otherwise, if all websites start to equip their sites with such sneaky settings, NoScript will become obsolete, because we all would be forced to allow evil scripts if we want to see the content.

As for the moment, I think it would be nice if there was at least the possibility to define specific exception rules for a domain, i.e. allowing doubleclick.net for IMDb video trailer pages only, but not for all the other pages or websites. Btw, I have set iframes to deny. And it has nothing to do with IMDb. But as soon as I allow doubleclick.net, the video trailers work.

Isn't there a workaround so that doubleclick.net is allowed only on those video pages of IMDb? Or how about allowing full paths in whitelist and wildcards? Or whitelist with regular expressions?
